University of Canterbury - Juice

Term 1, nearly done

Mid-semester break begins Monday 2 April

Some of you will be completing assignments, others may just be getting started - the lucky ones had no assignments!  Stick with it and don't forget these words of wisdom from students that have gone before you:

"Don't focus on the future at the  expense of the present. By all means, have an ambition, but realise you're not just going after a piece of paper, or a job, or a life. You're living your life right now. Make the most of it!"

This is the last Juice for this term and we'll be back on Tuesday 24 April. By then it sounds like the new Events Centre will be complete so campus will be buzzing! Catch up then.

New Events Centre coming soon...

Examination Timetable

The Examination Timetable for the 2012 mid-year examinations is now available.

It can be viewed on the examinations website or on UC Student Web.

It is your responsibility to check the date, time and location of your examinations.

Students are expected to be available throughout examination periods. Personal commitments, such as travel, should be avoided during these times. Holiday plans are not considered valid grounds for the rescheduling of exams.

Information regarding room allocations will be published on the last day of lectures for Semester One, Friday 1 June.

Friendly reminder that UC is smoke-free...

The University of Canterbury is proud to be a completely smoke-free campus.

This means that smoking is not permitted on any University grounds including regional campuses, field stations and other premises. The University promotes healthy lifestyles and has adopted this policy to ensure that all staff, students and visitors can experience a healthy, smoke-free environment.

The full policy can be reviewed in the UC Policy library, under ‘Smoke-free Policy’.

Grading Scale

The University has implemented a common grading scale for Semester 1, 2012. This replaces any grading scales that have been used previously and is applied across the University to all preparatory, undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate courses and across all Faculties.

More information and frequently asked questions can be found on the AQUA website.

Timetable Survey

The Centralised Timetable Review Group recently surveyed a large sample of students regarding their thoughts about the semester one timetable to assist in forming recommendations for developing the semester two and 2013 timetables.

A report from the survey, including a selection of comments, is available for you to browse. A second survey, informed by the results of the first survey, was sent out to a sample of students last week. If you received it, please respond as your input will help improve future timetable processes.

Library information

Tell the Library what you think and you could win a tablet (also: free food)

The Library wants to hear what you have to say about it and its services. Just attend one of their stakeholder value discovery workshops, and you’ll go in the draw to win a tablet computer – not to mention you’ll be fed a free morning tea and lunch. All workshops are 8.30am – 12.30pm, DA03 (Dovedale Village).

Level 3 update

Have your say on what the Library keeps in its collection.

Work clearing Level 3 of the Central Library for eventual conversion into study space has started, and the Library wants staff and student input into any items that might be withdrawn from the Library’s collection.
