We want to update you about work underway to develop Lyttelton’s Naval Point-Te Nukutai o Tapoa. Naval Point Development Plan approvedLyttelton’s Naval Point-Te Nukutai o Tapoa Development Plan has been signed off by the Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū/Banks Peninsula Community Board. The plan, which was developed in partnership with Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke (Rāpaki) Rūnanga, was approved by the community board in November 2020. It includes an expanded public boat ramp, reorganised waterfront and new breakwater. The implementation of the plan, which is an overall vision for the area and not detailed design, is estimated at $27 million and will take place in stages over several years as funding becomes available. Since the plan was approved, staff have started working on leasing documentation for Naval Point users. Magazine Bay Marina to closeLyttelton’s Magazine Bay Marina is going to shut. Councillors approved the closure of the marina, located at Naval Point, at the first Christchurch City Council meeting of the year held last Thursday (28 January 2021). The marina, a large portion of which is in poor condition, will close once the existing licences expire or are terminated according to their licence terms and conditions.
