Mink Mussel Creek, Gunns & Fucking Teeth @ Geisha, SUnday 8 July 2012
(pic by Amber Bateup)

I was going to make Eliott a pair, but he never built the bike for me he said he was going to build, so I guess that's ok. I'm gonna go babysit my friends' kids in Nedlands as soon as I finish this, and I know they're gonna say...

shannon fox: film festival review
Revelation Film Festival 2012 Opening Night & Season Preview.
One of the best movies I’ve ever seen was Slut! The Musical. It was a short film which played before a feature during Revelation Film Festival a couple of years ago and to this day, I will reference it whenever I am given the chance (You’re a slut! You’re a slut! You’re a dirty, dirty slut!). And yes, it really is as good as the title suggests. Point being, Revelation throws up some pretty amazing flicks, so, if you can, you should clear your calendar for its duration and make a new home for yourself at the cinema -who knows what you may come across…

christopher isaacs: in the black box
Preview of The School for WIves @ The State Theatre Centre of WA
Before Woody Allen, well even before the Wayans Brothers… and the Faralley brothers… before all the brothers there was a comedy writer whose success and popularity holds them up in a category with Shakespeare (Sorry Wayans, but you’re not in this category… though Major Payne was brilliant). I’m talking about the 17th century French playwright Molière. Born Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, and studying as an actor, Molière began writing comedies, distinctively combining elements of Commedia dell’arte and refined French comedies.

FRIDAY july 13
hussle hussle
at Mojos Bar, Fremantle
Hussle Hussle sees one of The Hottest Turntablists in the World right now, ZEKE. Get ready to bust moves, ZEKE has prepared a mother of a set to shut it all down good and proper.
This night also sees dub heavyweights, THE WEAPON IS SOUND take over the Mojos stage. This 7 piece is an organic, dirty, live dub Beast that isn't afraid to get Loud and Badass.
Singer, songwriter and electronic producer, MEI SARASWATI, certainly puts on an enthralling one woman show, captivating her audience with futuristic organic sounds.
Freo's finest represent, SLACKJAW in the place! From his beginnings as a hardened battle MC, SLACKJAW has travelled a colourful and wild journey to become the well rounded Hip Hop entertainer that he is today.
Ever diverse and up to the minute, SIMMO T, best known as one of Perth's mawdest contemporary dancehall reggae selectas, also happens to be a mighty fine hip hop DJ too. Opening with a Trap/Jersey/B-more/Philly & Southern hip hop set of ass clapping proportions, you'll be workin' your thing like it's spring.

TUESDAY july 17
kimberlEy whale research
at mojos bar, FREMANTLE
See a gig to support whale research! You'd have to be from Mars not to know, but Colin and his oil and gas industry mates want to build an enormous gas hub on a pristine part of the Kimberley coast that has very special cultural and environmental importance. Part of the line they are spinning is that whales don't come close to the coast, or calve at this location - but we know that's bullshit! Some amazing people are volunteering for months on end this year to document the whales and get the proof we need, but they need equipment and some money for running costs. That's where you come in! Throw in some cash and feel good / have a great time doing it by coming down.
We're lucky enough to have playing:
DILIP N THE DAVs (Acoustic Trio)
HOMBRES DEL MAR
& ENSEMBLE FORMIDABLE SOUND SYSTEM
For info about the campaign visit wilderness.org.au/kimberley or environskimberley.org.au Come have fun with us and raise some cash.

beauty and the beast
at the old mill theatre, south perth
The Old Mill Theatre is staging the world premiere of the latest play from Hollywood writer and director David Stevens this June, best known for The Sum of Us, A Town Like Alice and Breaker Morant.
Described as a “love story re-invented”, The Beast and The Beauty re-works the classic tale of magic and enchantment and sets it in the Australian outback of the late 1880s.
The so-called beast is an ordinary man, horribly disfigured in a bushfire as a baby.
Director Mark DeFriest is bringing the show to life, a veteran of more than 800 hours of television drama in the US and Australia.
His credits include Cop Shop, The Sullivans, Prisoner, The Flying Doctors, Chances, Ocean Girl, Ship To Shore, Streetsmartz and the Doctor Who spin-off K-9, among many others.
The Beast and The Beauty plays at 8pm, July 11, 12, 13 and 14.
Tickets are $25, $20 concession – book on 9367 8719 or oldmilltheatre@iinet.net.au.

at studio underground, state theatre centre of wa
Created and performed by Tim Watts, Arielle Gray and Chris Isaacs.
Music composed by Rachael Dease
The creators of the international multi-award winning production The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer have created another heartfelt adventure. Using puppetry, mask, animation and live performance they deliver a grand epic western about redemption and dementia. As the sun sets, an old man and his noble tent go wandering into the wild. He is losing his mind. Swept up in a surreal world, he is on the run. Meanwhile, a mysterious tracker has caught the scent, and is hell bent on hunting him down. But while he can try and run away from the life he once knew, he can’t hide from everything.

Hedda Gabler.
By Henrik Ibsen. Translated by Christopher Hampton.
By arrangement with Origin, on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.
Directed by Kirilee Lennerts
Hedda: Academics certainly don’t make entertaining traveling companions.
Brack: Not even... the academic you love?
Hedda: Ugh, please don’t use that nauseating word.
Hedda Tesman, daughter of the aristocratic general - General Gabler, returns from her honeymoon with her aspiring, reliable but bland academic husband, George Tesman. No sooner have they arrived when their lives are thrown into disarray with the reappearance of Tesman’s academic rival, Lovborg, and Hedda’s old schoolmate, Thea. Judge Brack also soon arrives at the Tesmans’ house with an agenda all of his own...
Rivalries of all natures begin to occur, and Hedda is determined not to lose - no matter the cost.
