Term 2, Issue 5
Kingswood College Where Potential Soars Kingswood College

Message from the Principal

22 years is a very long time in a person’s life. Joan James, our SEEK (Student Extension and Enrichment at Kingswood) teacher in Junior School will retire at the end of this term, having been a staff member at Kingswood College since 1990. During her years with us Joan has contributed in many ways, including initially working as a replacement teacher, part time Librarian, a classroom teacher for Years 3-6, but where Year 5 held a special place in her heart, PE teacher, and Maths curriculum developer at state level. Most in the College community at present, however, would know Joan for her role in SEEK, where she has managed Tournament of Minds, and run a whole range of programs for students in our Junior School, variously nurturing and challenging students as the case required. Joan has enviable travel plans for later this year, and much to look forward to in the next chapter in her life.

Junior School will hold a celebration afternoon for Joan, and welcome all present and past students of Mrs James, and their families, to come and say goodbye in a farewell afternoon tea in the Junior School library on Monday 24 June at 3.30pm. For catering purposes, please email your RSVP to Nicole Cherny by Friday 20 June.

Meanwhile, examinations in Years 10–12 have concluded, the Production ‘Return to the Forbidden Planet’ is hugely anticipated – don’t miss out on the chance to see our students in action on the stage! Opening Night is Thursday.

Earn & Learn

The College has been participating in the Woolworths Earn & Learn program. The program has now finished for this year, so a big thank you to everyone who supported our College.

We’re now at the important stage of the program where Points Sheets are collected and lodged as our Earn & Learn claim. We will then be able to get new educational equipment for the College. The more we collect, the more we can redeem. So this week please send in your Woolworths Earn & Learn Points Sheets and any loose Earn & Learn Points Stickers you may have. Remember to check your handbag, the car glove box or they may be stuck on the fridge. Every little bit helps. Thank you again for all your support!
