The teen years bring many changes, including more independent relationships with health-care providers that can be affected by medical consent and confidentiality. Adolescents who trust their health-care provider’s commitment to confidentiality are more likely to seek advice and treatment when they have a health concern. This module covers federal and state law and best practices related to consent and confidentiality and offers guidelines for ethically navigating adolescent health challenges.
