Highlights from the first half of 2011

This has been a year of steady growth for EOS, and there is much to recount from the first half of 2011. A few of our successes this year include:

  • Helping more than 4000 Nicaraguans gain access to life-improving technology

  •  Installing 125 EOS technologies (158% growth from 2010)

  • Winning the Klau Prize for Greatest Social Impact at the University of Notre Dame’s McCloskey Business Plan Competition

  • Adding community water chlorination systems to our set of core technologies

  • Kicking off a 3-year Rural Water Chlorination Program with fellow non-profit Compatible Technology International (CTI)

  • Raising more than $27,000

Rural Water Chlorination Program with CTI

Main Content Inline Small

On July 1, 2011, EOS kicked off a three-year program with St. Paul, MN based Compatible Technology International (CTI), to provide clean drinking water to over 500,000 Nicaraguans. Both organizations are collaborating to promote and install water chlorination systems, developed by CTI, that treat the community's water source.  These systems will ensure a clean source of drinking water for all families in a village. This program has tremendous potential to improve the health of rural Nicaraguans.  In July alone, EOS technician Lester Peralta installed three systems, providing clean drinking water for over 3500 people. Above is a picture of Lester and one of the systems he installed last month.

EOS Team Workshop in Nicaragua

Main Content Inline Small

Earlier this month, EOS directors Greg McGrath and Wes Meier made a trip to Nicaragua with board member, Joe Dunlay, for a four-day workshop with our Nicaragua team. The workshop took place in San Isidro, Nicaragua – the new home of EOS International’s operations abroad. The primary goal of the weekend was to connect and grow as a team and to discuss our strategy for continued growth in the next year. It was a productive weekend, which was concluded by spending a day touring the Miraflor Nature Preserve in Estelí.
