It's an almost universally accepted fact, backed by extensive scientific research: breast milk is the healthiest option for babies. Despite this, the US administration opposed a proposal to promote breastfeeding at a recent World Health Assembly, choosing instead to support the interests of baby formula corporations. Andrea Freeman explains the role that race played in this decision, and how corporate interests are being placed ahead of the lives of brown and black babies.

Mali's electorate has become louder and more demanding in recent years, and expects a great deal from its political leaders. Jonathan Sears says this shift among the citizenry means the 2018 election, whose first round is scheduled for Sunday, may just be make a break from the politics of old and usher in a new democratic age in the West African republic.
