CPC Census Outreach Aims
for a Complete CountThroughout July, CPC conducted community outreach in Flushing, Queens with the MinKwon Center for Community Action to increase participation in the Census. CPC also participated in Make Brooklyn Count activities and the Census March for Racial Justice on August 2nd. About 50 CPC staff members have conducted outreach virtually and in-person.
EDUCATIONWe provide high-quality learning opportunities for all ages—from Pre-K and after-school enrichment to adult English language classes—because education is lifelong.
COVID-19 Community Updates And ResourcesAs New York City enters Phase Four of reopening, CPC remains committed to the health and safety of our staff and community members. We have operated on a modified schedule since March, and will continue to do so throughout the summer.
On July 15th, CPC received a $5,000 grant from the Investors Bank Foundation. The funds will support CPC Project Gateway, our in-house college counseling and resource center, to provide one-on-one counseling, workshops, college trips, financial literacy education, networking events, and other supports for youth, their families, and adults
seeking post-secondary opportunities.
CPC Adult Literacy Program Begins First Remote Citizenship Class On July 20th, the CPC Adult Literacy Program began its first fully remote citizenship class. Twenty students enrolled with the ultimate goal of passing the citizenship test and becoming a U.S. Citizen.
CPC ECLW Launches 30-Hour Cohort Virtual Training in Chinese and SpanishCPC Early Childhood Learning and Wellness Services (ECLW) is pleased to announce its first virtual 30-Hour Cohort Training in Chinese and Spanish for licensed family child care providers took place on June 20th with 48 licensed family child providers in attendance. These training courses are designed to help fulfill the requirements for license renewal.
FAMILY SUPPORTWe make it easier for individuals and families to access personalized social resources because support is fundamental at every age.
CPC's Susan Zheng Featured as City & State Queens Hero CPC staff member, Susan Zheng, was recently featured in City & State for her work as the residential manager for the Individual Residential Alternative (IRA) Program at the Josephine M. Ho Community Residence for Special Needs, a group home for individuals with developmental disabilities that provides 24-hour care. We are so proud of the work of Susan, her
colleagues, and all of CPC's staff for their dedication to serving our communities during this time.
Sumon Chin Named to the Board of Directors at Early Care and Learning Council CPC is proud to announce Ms. Sumon Chin, CPC’s Deputy Director of Manhattan Community Services and Director of Early Childhood Learning & Wellness Services (ECLW), has been appointed to serve as a member of the Board of Directors at the Early Care and Learning Council (ECLC). ECLC is a statewide, not-for-profit membership organization that represents the 35 Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R) programs across New York State.

Know Your Rights: Information on the COVID-19 Rental Relief Program New York State has introduced an emergency rental relief program that will provide one-time rental assistance to New Yorkers burdened by rent during the COVID-19 crisis. The new deadline for applications for the program is set for Thursday, August 6th. Although the New York City’s housing courts partially reopened at the end of June, they have continued a pause on evictions through at least August 5th.
CPC and 5 Partner Organizations Extend Work of Flushing Economic Mobility Collaborative Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit New York City, all organizations involved in the Mobility Learning and Action Bets (LABs) project in Flushing, also known as the Flushing Collaborative, have moved quickly to adapt. Thanks to the generous support of Robin Hood, the collaborative is extending its work beyond the initial nine month timeline and continuing to engage the cohorts assembled to discuss and address economic mobility in Flushing without interruptions.
CPC Voices Community Concerns On Discussion on Hate Crimes CPC President and CEO Wayne Ho participated in a panel discussion hosted by the Mayor’s Office for the Prevention of Hate Crimes on July 28th as part of the quarterly meetings of the Interagency Committee on Hate Crimes (IAC).
CPC Presents Cook for a Cause: Chilled Yuzu Chicken Noodles with Lucas Sin of Junzi KitchenOn July 19th, CPC hosted their first ever virtual fundraising event as a part of the CPC COVID-19 Relief Fund campaign. The two part cooking demonstration series kicked off with Cook for a Cause: Chilled Yuzu Chicken Noodles with co-founder and chef Lucas Sin of Junzi Kitchen, moderated by our very own co-chair of CPC’s Leadership Council, Lai Ling Li.
