BIS Support

BIS support: In the aftermath of the rioting BIS is working with local enterprise partnerships, local authorities and business organisations to ensure affected businesses have access to practical advice, information and support to get back on their feet as quickly as possible.

High Street Support Scheme

Department for Communities and Local Government : Communities Secretary Eric Pickles has announced a new multi-million pound fund to help high streets get back on their feet following the recent rioting. The measures include tax relief on business rates to help local shops. Small and medium sized businesses affected by the riots can contact thier local authority to make a claim.

Riot Damages Act

Home Office: Businesses can now seek compensation for riot damage under the Riot Damages Act. The Home Office has put in place website and phone support.

Helpline for those affected

Riot helpline: HM Revenue & Customs has announced a single helpline number – 0845 366 1207 – to help businesses and individuals adversely affected by the recent civil disorder.

Support available from banks

Interest free loans: RBS and NatWest will provide interest free loans of up to £25k to small business customers directly impacted by the riots for up to 6 months.

Business Guidance

General guidance for businesses: Find out the latest updated support, advice and compensation available for businesses affected by rioting on Business Link.

Insurance: The Association of British Insurers has confirmed that insurers' priority is to help business through this traumatic period. Insurers are working as quickly as they can to deal with claims and most have 24 hour call centres.

Met Police: The Met Police Service is providing advice to businesses following the recent disorder.

Advice for the public

Direct Gov advice: If your property was damaged or destroyed during the riots, you may be able to claim compensation. You may also be eligible for financial support from your local council.
