Following on from the publication of our new research paper 'Dress codes and appearance at work', and due to increased media attention, it may be time to think about how you address areas such as Tattoo's, Dress Codes, Piercings, body modification and other personal preferences in your work place.

 

On the surface, dress codes along with the restriction of tattoos and piercings may seem trivial - but when you consider that staff may wear specific items of clothing or have tattoos for religious or cultural reasons, it can quickly become complicated! What happens if a customer-facing staff member comes into work with a tattoo on their neck? Do your contracts allow for you to take action if you find this to be unacceptable?
