In recognition of World Mental Health Day on 10 October, this edition of ESA News brings you resources focusing on wellbeing in school communities.

At ESA we are committed to making a positive difference to the wellbeing of students. We encourage you to check out the range of resources and tools we have available.

In this edition, we’ve also got some great new resources available on Scootle – take a look below.

 

Student Wellbeing Hub | Playing a part in wellbeing

Everyone has a part to play in helping children and young people develop protective factors that enhance their mental health. Teaching social and emotional skills, and promoting resilience and help-seeking, are great foundations for wellbeing and learning.

The Student Wellbeing Hub supports educators, parents and students to learn more about mental health and wellbeing.

NCCD podcast | Classroom adjustments: Mental health

Listen to the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) Portal’s podcast episode 'Classroom adjustments: Mental health'. Experts talk about adjustments teachers can make in the classroom to support students who have mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression.

The ‘Classroom adjustments’ NCCD Portal series is available on popular podcast platforms, including Apple podcasts, Spotify, and Google podcasts.

ECRH | Wellbeing resources to help with young children

 

The Early Child Resource Hub (ECRH) features over 40 wellbeing resources and ideas to support early years educators. 

Also, this month’s ERCH newsletter offers a case study and a range of practical ideas to support trauma-informed practice in early years settings. For example, find out how bubble-blowing can promote deep breathing.

Reading can help children to develop a strong sense of self and social awareness. Early Learning Languages Australia (ELLA) have an excellent resource called 'Everyday ELLA ideas for reading'. 

This resource outlines books that 
help children learn about other cultures
and experiences as well as how to understand and include others.

What's new in Scootle

Enhance TV

 

Enhance TV is an Australian educational video-on-demand site that provides a wide range of curriculum-linked movies for schools. Enhance TV is available to Scootle members in Australian government and Catholic schools, for use in classrooms.

Independent schools who are Screenrights members can contact help@enhancetv.com.au to gain access to the videos.

Students can explore river catchments, delve into transformations on Cartesian planes, make slime and build circuits.

They can also build their understanding of the Australian Constitution, develop health and safety messages via app-based games, and investigate how Pythagoras' theorem can help find a lost phone.
