Greetings from your Community BoardMessage from the ChairKia ora koutou, Highlights from our latest meetingOur Community Board met on Monday 7 December. Some highlights included hearing from local residents as part of our Public Forum. It was great to hear from members of our community who recently received funding for their projects. We approved plans to relocate the bus stop outside The Palms on New Brighton Road, to provide a more sheltered and pleasant place for commuters to wait for the bus. We also considered options for No Stopping Restrictions on Whitau Place, located within the Prestons subdivision in Marshland. A look back at 2020 and forward to 2021* Written by Kelly Barber, Chair of the Coastal-Burwood Community Board He Puna Taimoana has been a great success and is well ahead of forecast visitor numbers. (Even without overseas visitors) The New Brighton Clocktower repair and upgrade is completed, the Marine Parade Street scaping is finished and looking fantastic and the revamped Whale Pool and Playground are alive with families on weekends and some evenings. With Government ‘Shovel Ready’ funding help for Eastern Sports canopy Project and other projects in the Rawhiti Domain, two Surf Club rebuilds, and the new South New Brighton ‘Hub’ Community Centre near completion, there is much to be grateful for. Council also passed unanimously a series of resolutions to help see the 2015 New Brighton Master Plan pushed on toward completion. Of course there is always more work to do, but we must celebrate the successes along the way. Over the next year we’ll see the start of work on the Waitaki Street Stopbank and Wetland Project and decisions on funding for work to finish the Estuary Edge Earthquake legacy project and our other priority project the Pages road New Brighton Bridge and approaches. There will be some other roading improvements along the way. This is only a small snapshot of the great things happening in our area, the most diverse, beautiful and exciting part of our
wonderful city.
