Further upgrades for water supply networkWe're fast-tracking additional upgrades to the city’s drinking water supply network while we work with health officials to finalise our new water safety plan. The work includes improving the security of the network’s reservoirs and suction tanks, preventing backflow from commercial and industrial sites, and minimising use of older lead-jointed pipes. UV upgrade for Main PumpsOne of the city's largest pump stations, Main Pumps, has recently been upgraded with an ultra-violet (UV) treatment facility. The upgrade means drinking water from six wells can be disinfected with UV light instead of chlorine. Water restrictions likelyThere are likely to be water restrictions over summer in Christchurch's Central Water Zone. This will support ongoing upgrade work on our well heads and reservoirs, and help to keep any additional chlorine treatment needed as low as possible.
