Lyttelton Recreation Centre re-opens The Lyttelton Recreation Centre is now open for use and we’re excited to welcome you all back. Check the Lyttelton Recreation Centre Facebook page for the latest news and programmes. Making strides at Simeon QuayWe've finished building the roof of the Simeon Quay pump station. This brand new pump station is the powerhouse that will pump all of Lyttelton Harbour's wastewater over the hill and on to the main Christchurch treatment plant at Bromley. Our contractors have installed internal lights and poured the slab for the backup generator that will help power the pump station in case of a power outage. This is part of the Lyttelton Harbour Wastewater Project. Holiday weekend opening for Christchurch's hot poolsNew Brighton’s beachside hot pools complex, He Puna Taimoana, will open to the public on Saturday. Christchurch residents can apply for a discount card to get reduced entry fees. Te Wheke opens this weekend at Christchurch Art GalleryAn immersive exhibition that explores art through our connections with the Pacific will be unveiled at Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū on 30 May. The exhibition includes a brand new painting by artist Kelcy Taratoa, spanning 36 metres across Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū’s outer east wall. KidsFest 2020 is comingPlanning for one of Canterbury school children’s most loved annual events, KidsFest, is well underway, despite the challenges of the current COVID-19 pandemic. KidsFest, which runs every winter school holidays, will go ahead this year from Saturday 4 July until Sunday 19 July. Book your visit to our pools and fitness centresSwimmers and fitness fans can now return to their regular workouts, with online bookings core to a safety-focused environment at the Christchurch City Council’s Recreation and Sport Centres. Council considering revised Draft Annual Plan 2020-21 optionsThree options for reworking Christchurch City Council’s budget to reflect the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic will be considered by elected members at a special Council meeting on Friday. Following the Council decision, the revised Draft Annual Plan 2020–21 will go out for public feedback from 12– 29 June.
