Sweet Halloween

Jennifer E., Senior Editor

Halloween is upon us, which means a lot of candy is about to be eaten. So, to make sure you're stuffing yourself with the best sweet stuff around, we sent our expert panel of candy tasters all across Soho to see what they could turn up. Spooktacular!

Easy Peasy Japanesy

This Japanese market has a HUGE selection of fun and mystifying candy. Trick or treating tykes will love the super cola gum. It tastes spookily like the drink and when chewed, it fizzes ever so strangely with each bite. They'll also enjoy the miniature, plastic microphones filled with a pez-like candy (above). They come in hot-pink and yellow and they're wrapped with a cool graphic of two Japanese kids rocking out.

Candy Bling

Established in Barcelona in 2004, Papabubble’s makes homemade sweets that are sold in places like Tokyo, Amsterdam, and New York. In the Nolita branch you’ll find hard sugar candies in the form of sushi, rings (pictured), tooth brushes, dentures (!), animal faces and more. For Halloween, Papabubble has imprinted skulls and jack-o-lanterns on their signature bite-sized candies. Bonus: Papa makes their sweets in the store, so if you bring your kids in with you, they'll be treated to a candy-making show.

Candy for Grown Ups

Now that we’ve covered candies for kiddies, don't forget your own sweet teeth. Marie Belle  has a variety of heavenly gourmet chocolates and confections. I recommend Marie Belle’s signature chocolate box of ganaches (available in 9-100pcs). They're delicious, and each dark chocolate is hand-painted with a beautiful and, at times, picturesque design.
