Greetings from your Community Board

Message from the Chair

Kia ora koutou,
I hope you are all staying warm and dry during this wet winter weather. There's lots of warm, indoor fun to be had at our libraries, pools and sports centre during the school holidays. Young people can also explore a wide range of events and activities, including the Matariki Discovery Trail during KidsFest, Christchurch's winter school holiday festival for kids. I'm looking forward to checking out some of the spectacular light-based art works that are lighting up our central city and open spaces as part of a brand new event, CHCH is LIT.
Keep being kind and look after one another. Kia kaha.

Highlights from our latest meeting

Our Community Board met on Monday 6 July. Some highlights of our meeting included adopting the Waitai/Coastal-Burwood Community Board Plan which identifies the Board’s strategic priorities for 2020-2022. Our Community Board Plan will inform the Board’s strategic decision-making, and our influence of Council decision-making processes such as the Long Term Plan. This Plan has been developed in consultation with our local community and we look forward to sharing the final version with you soon.
The Board considered recommendations from the Reserves Act Hearings Panel following community consultation on the Archery Club development and tree removal on Rawhiti Domain. Following this recommendation, we have decided to decline the Christchurch Archery Club's application for a new lease at Rawhiti Domain, noting that the current lease runs until June 2021, and the Club’s occupation of the existing site and building will revert to a month by month basis from that time. You can read more about the consultation here.
You can read the minutes to see what else we discussed and find out the dates, times and details of upcoming Community Board and Council meetings here.
