Greetings from your Community BoardMessage from the ChairKia ora koutou, Highlights from our latest meetingOur Community Board met on Monday 6 July. Some highlights of our meeting included adopting the Waitai/Coastal-Burwood Community Board Plan which identifies the Board’s strategic priorities for 2020-2022. Our Community Board Plan will inform the Board’s strategic decision-making, and our influence of Council decision-making processes such as the Long Term Plan. This Plan has been developed in consultation with our local community and we look forward to sharing the final version with you soon. Time for New Brighton Clock Tower to show fresh faceThe restoration of the New Brighton Clock Tower is complete and the repaired mechanism is telling the time once again. The heritage clock tower, which is in front of the New Brighton Library building, suffered damage caused by the Canterbury earthquakes and decades of exposure to the seaside environment. New fund to support red zone community projectsThe Christchurch City Council has opened a $282,000 fund that enables people to activate community projects and events in the city’s former residential red zones. The Red Zones Transitional Use Fund is open to individuals, community organisations and social enterprises to help new projects in the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor, Southshore, South New Brighton, Brooklands and the Port Hills regeneration areas. New guide puts Christchurch walks on mapA brochure detailing all of the walks available in Christchurch’s flat areas, from beachside wanders to forest strolls, has been published by the Christchurch City Council’s Parks team for the first time. The Christchurch Coast and Plains brochure has information and maps of 37 different walks in locations around the city including Bottle Lake Forest Park and Spencer Park and Travis Wetland. Moves to tackle alcohol-harm legacy of lockdownA multi-agency action plan to cut alcohol-related harm is ramping up following an increase in drinking fuelled by COVID-19-induced anxiety, social isolation and job uncertainty. Created in partnership with the Canterbury District Health Board, the Police and the Christchurch City Council, the Christchurch Alcohol Action Plan (CAAP) focuses on reducing alcohol harm across the community.
