Greetings from your Community Board

Message from the Chair

Kia ora koutou,
I'm pleased to see progress on the Naval Point-Te Nukutai o Tapoa Development Plan, which our Board approved at our meeting on Monday. We'll continue working with users and key stakeholders to firm up next steps for this project. As we head into the warmer months, the Council has launched their "Water like you oughta” campaign, which encourages people to think carefully about how and when they water their gardens.
If you're up for a challenge, check out Council's new Bin Good Game and test your knowledge of what items belong in your red, yellow and green wheelie bins. It's a fun way to tackle a serious issue and help minimise the amount of waste going to landfill. Remember to take a look at the new Long Term Plan portal and the challenges and opportunities we’re facing as we develop our 10-year budget.
Stay together, look after one another.

Chair of the Community Board

Board Chair, Tori Peden

Our Community Board met on Monday 30 November. Some highlights of our meeting included hearing from local residents and groups regarding the Naval Point Development Plan as part of our Deputations by Appointment. Our Board approved the draft Naval Point-Te Nukutai o Tapoa Development Plan and we will make a recommendation to Council on the eventual closure of Magazine Bay Marina.  Banks Peninsula tsunami evacuation zones re-drawn

Tsunami evacuation zones in Banks Peninsula have been updated based on new scientific research. The latest modelling shows us that in most areas, flooding from a tsunami may extend further inland than allowed for under the previous tsunami evacuation zones.
If you live or own property on Banks Peninsula, you can check online to see whether your property has been affected by the tsunami evacuation zone changes.

A section of road near the Sign of the Kiwi on the Cashmere side of the summit will be down to one lane. There will be stop/go signals to help people get through the area so expect short delays and please look out for our work crews. Read our latest project newsletter for more information.

Little River home to Pop Up Penguins

Colourful penguins have popped up across Banks Peninsula and Christchurch, creating a family friendly summer sculpture trail.

Check out the “Gateway to the Peninsula Penguin” by Frankie Bakker in the Heritage Park,  Main Road, Little River, sponsored by Christchurch City Council's Enliven Places programme, and selected by the Little River Wairewa Community Trust.

Frankie’s work was chosen as it showed not only some of the natural beauty that the peninsula has to offer, but how Little River is the place that you enter that beauty through.

Fellow local Little River Artist Jane Downes has also designed and painted the “Kiwiama" Penguin, which you can find at Willowbank Wildlife Reserve.

The Wild in Art Pop Up Penguins sculpture trail celebrates unique parts of Christchurch while highlighting climate change, community, Antarctica, creativity, innovation and exploration.

The wider trail of discovery – designed to appeal to all ages – extends to Christchurch International Airport, Rangiora, Lyttelton, Lincoln, Little River, Akaroa and Rolleston.
