Regimes of Value
15 March - 13 April

Regimes of Value, curated by Elizabeth Gower, is an exhibition occurring over two venues at the Margaret Lawrence Gallery and The Substation, Newport. The focus is the collection of ephemera and urban detritus and their re-purpose as a contemporary art strategy. The exhibition features a mixture of young artists and more senior, established artists, all with a Melbourne perspective.

In connection with the exhibition, is UK artist-curator-writer Dr Gillian Whiteley’s visit to the VCA.  As author of Junk: Art and politics of Trash she is presenting a series of public forums. Don’t miss the last talk on Tuesday 26 March, The Sustainability Conundrum of the Prosumer Artist.

Screenwriting Lecture Series
20 & 27 March, 6pm - 7.30pm

Stephen Cleary (former Head of Development at British Screen) returns to the VCA for his fourth ‘sell out’ free lecture series on the art of screenwriting. This year he is taking a practical approach, presenting fresh ways to think about writing characters in screen stories; how theme relates to character directly, to plot indirectly, and how it binds the two together; and how he personally approaches a story development meeting, combining technical expertise and genuine passion for film and story. Don’t miss the last two lectures.

Kenny Pittock, 'Clingy Ex-Boyfriend', acrylic on cardboard, 2013

Student success at TropFest & Linden Postcard Show

Congratulations to VCA Master of Producing students Michael Ciccone and Jim Wright, who produced the Winner of Tropfest 2013 'We've All Been There', directed by Nick Clifford. You can watch the film here. Mr Ciccone said hearing the film’s name read out was a massive surprise, as he didn’t think they had a chance of winning. “I think I screamed ridiculously loudly for about 20 seconds and then ran as fast as I could (I have a broken bone in my foot) to the stage,” he said. Congratulations also go to Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) student Kenny Pittock, who was announced as the winner of the 2013 Linden Postcard Show for his work Clingy Ex-Boyfriend (pictured). The exhibition continues until 23 March.
