Hope Force Reservists,

In light of developments with devastating flooding in South Carolina and surrounding areas, we are asking all Reservists to be on “standby alert.”  This means Hope Force may deploy and if so, we will need your help.  Please find details below.

Current Status

What we know:

  • Flooding in South Carolina is being called "catastrophic." According to the Weather Channel, "Officials are worried life-threatening impacts will only worsen as the 1-in-1,000-year rain event continues Sunday."
  • Other states are also experiencing serious flooding
  • Reports indicated more heavy rain on the way with many rivers yet to top flood levels
  • An assessment team will be leaving tomorrow morning to determine level of need and target areas we might serve

What we don't know:

  • Specifics on location and timing for a confirmed HFI deployment of Reservists

What you need to know:

  • If deployed, be prepared for lots of change and uncertainty, with plans "unfolding" as things develop.
  • Anticipate approximately seven days+ in the field

What you should do now:

  • Conduct a self-assessment: Is this a good time for you to consider deploying?
  • Pray about participating
  • If you may be available, please REPLY to this with the following:
  1. Name
  2. Email address
  3. Cell phone number
  4. Dates of availability in October (as best you know)
  • Prepare your deployment gear and supplies
  • Communicate with family, friends, employer about possible deployment
  • If you cannot go at this time, please consider giving to the response

What happens now:

  • HFI will continue to monitor the situation and be in communication with our assessment team, sending updates as we gain further clarity
  • "Hurry up and wait" is a normal part of any potential disaster response.

Thank you, and know that we are grateful for you!
