Happy New Year from your Community BoardMessage from the ChairWelcome to the first edition of our monthly Community Board newsletter for 2020. On behalf of the Papanui-Innes Community Board, I hope you have all had safe and enjoyable holidays and are looking forward to what the year will bring. My Board and I will be getting out and about in the community and setting out some key priorities that we want to achieve over the next 12 months. We are delighted to be here and to serve you all. Meet the Papanui-Innes teamThis summer 'water like you oughta'Christchurch residents are being urged to cut back on outdoor water use as part of a campaign aimed at ensuring our water supply doesn’t come under too much pressure over the summer. Warden Street reconstructionWe’re starting the reconstruction of Warden Street from Petrie Street to Hills Road. This project will see us fix all parts of the road area including footpaths, kerbs, and carriageway. We’ve already upgraded the street lighting and we’ll be planting new trees as part of the reconstruction. Work on stage one runs from January - September 2020. Revamp for Graham Condon This summer we're carrying out work to improve our facility, meaning we'll be closed temporarily. Work will start on 13 January 2020 and is being carried out in two phases. The main hall and gym will be completed first and re-open in early February 2020, while the remainder of the centre – including pools – will re-open at the start of April 2020. During the closure period the community are encouraged to use Jellie Park Recreation and Sports Centre and Tairoa QEII or our outdoor pools, which are open over the summer. You can also check our website for more info on our various Summer pool parties. People with specific memberships at Graham Condon will be able to use other centres. Work to start on transport projects in St Albans, Mairehau and Edgeware We are close to appointing a contractor to deliver the first stage of work along Cranford Street and Sherborne Street. This work will include main road and intersection upgrades, cycle routes and a slow speed zone. Read our latest newsletter for more information. We will be in touch with residents and businesses in the area once we have construction timelines confirmed. Gardeners with bumper crop can reap rewards If you have a garden packed with plentiful potatoes, lavish lettuces or beautiful berries then you could be a contender for the upcoming Edible and Sustainable Garden Awards.
