Just Three Things

Today I’m only going to try to share just 3 things in my newsletter. Why so uncharacteristically succinct, you say? Well, mainly because it’s been such a frantic few weeks since my last ramble that I never told you about a Big Event that’s just a few days away! And I want you to remember it, so you come along and keep me company...

Thing no. 1: Metamorphosis Art Gallery

I’m showing some brand new work at a gallery opening with 7 other artists – opening night is THIS FRIDAY Sept 16th (I know, it’s ridiculously short notice, but who knows, maybe you’re free this Friday night?) at the Metamorphosis Art Gallery, 16 Yampi Way, Willeton at 7-9pm.

There will be sculptures and paintings and a HUGE diversity of work, so it promises to be quite a rich creative offering. If you can’t make it this Friday, the show runs for a week, til Sunday Sept 25th. But please, check your diary, and come along on opening night this Friday16th Sept...I'll be saying a few words about my work and I would love to see a friendly face!

Thing no. 2: MUKA MAYHEM!

Well, I feel like a well-seasoned traveller now...I made it to Mukinbudin, a tiny wheatbelt town 300 km northeast of Perth. We passed through little townships that I didn’t know existed (have you heard of Wyalkatchem, Goomalling or Kununoppin?), overcame the fear that I had of being lost forever amidst beautiful rolling fields of wheat and canola...Then Mukinbudin! I’ve been exhibiting at their Spring Festival for a few years, and this year, they invited me to be the ‘guest artist’ along with Phil Doncon , with whom, some of you may remember, I did a show last year. Phil did his amazing performance on opening night and I was the ‘Guest Speaker’ *gulp*! Well, we pulled it off – and had a ball too. The crowd was friendly, they laughed at my jokes and opened their hearts to this little Indian chick from the city, letting me share my story.

The next day I ran a Beginner’s Workshop  which had been booked out for weeks, as people came from six different towns to attend. They were such gorgeous folk, who made spectacular art, and I’m now hooked! My lovely little white van and I are ready for regional Australia!

Thing no. 3: Twenty Five

You know how Greg and I are celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary this month?. Twenty five years! It's been great fun, although there have been times when I've felt like throttling him! We’ve been fortunate to come this far, and maybe we’ve survived because of the support and kindness of our family and friends.

To say thank you for our 25 year adventure, I’d like to invite you to join me in making a ’25-themed’ donation to help the emergency situation in East Africa, where survival has a whole different meaning. How? Donate anything to the East Africa Famine Appeal –  from $2.50 to $25 to $250. You can read about what's happening in East Africa and how you can help with an easy donation here.

Ooops ... One More Thing

What do you do when you need that extra creative charge? I go to art workshops, admire other people’s art, read a book, listen to a TED Talk, meditate, or just sit and stare at the river and the trees, for as long as I can. I’ve tried coffee and cake, but they’re not as effective (although chocolate does work!). If you’ve got a few moments, listen to this: Isabel Allende’s tales of passion. As always, if I recommend a TED talk, it has to have heart, humour and give me a creative lift, and this one did! I hope you enjoy it too.
