November 12th Meeting Recap

Many thanks to Dan Peterson, Director -Center for Property Rights at the James Madison Institute for drving up and giving us an update on the things that have happened in regards to property rights, and what to watch for in the coming Florida Legislative session.  He recently did a Policy Priority Update to help keep everyone informed.

He gave us a brief introduction to the James Madison Institute, explaining what an advantage it is for him to be part of this organization.  Check them out at:  http://www.jamesmadison.org/  - sign up for their email newsletter to keep updated on the issues facing us.

Dan asked us to 1) stay informed; 2) call, email, and/or write your Senators and Representative.  3) become a member of the James Madison Institute.

If you have any doubt about the need to stay involved and active, please watch this:   FREE COLLEGE, $15 MINIMUM WAGE?  Where do we go from here if our younger generation is thinking this way?

We did another Presidential Primary Preference poll.  I will be posting the results in an upcoming newsletter.  To participate in an online survey, please see the next article.

Please mark your calendars for our December 10th meeting.  We have invited the local sheriffs to discuss the Open Carry, Campus Carry, and other legislation.  We would like to make this a "fun" meeting with coffee, tea, and desserts.  If you are would like to do this and can bring a dessert, please email shiggins@windstream.net

Please take 60 seconds and partake in this statewide post-debate poll/survey. It is the same kind of poll we conduct each month at our meetings. This one will reflect our opinions from the last debate . Click on the link below and it will take you to the online poll.  Please answer all the questions before hitting submit.  (We have had a glitch in the reporting of the results of our last two polls - we are trying to get that straightened out so that we can see those results on the Florida Conservatives United website.).

CVA Phone Banking this Tuesday

Can you help phone bank on Tuesday, November 17th at the Columbia County Library?  We partner with Concerned Veterans for America; they contribute to the expenses for printing the American Patriot News and we volunteer to phone bank once a month.  The last two months we have called U. S. Representative's offices and asked them to co-sponsor the Veteran's Accountability Act.  http://cv4a.org/takeaction/     Sometimes we call veterans and ask them simple questions for a survey.

Chick-Fil-A will be served at 5:30 and the phone banking begins at 6:00 p.m.

If you can help with this, please call Barbara at 386-330-4328.  Please leave a message for her and she will get back with you!.  We really appreciate all who help with this!

Action Alert! Senate Open Carry Bill SB 300

Senate Open Carry Bill SB 300 Passes Criminal Justice and now moves to Senate Judiciary

Urge the committee and your local representatives to support this bill!
Florida Citizens’ Alliance believes very strongly that you have the God-given right to protect your life and your families’ lives.

You may only have seconds to draw your firearm when confronted by criminal or terrorist who wishes to do you and your family harm. If Florida becomes an “open carry” state, you will not have to waste precious seconds drawing your firearm from a concealed location.

The Senate Open Carry Bill SB 300 passed the Criminal Justice Committee and now moves to the Judiciary. It has not been scheduled yet but we cant want for a last minute alert!

HB 169 Burden of Proof on Stand Your Ground

EMAIL FROM:  Marion P. Hammer, USF Executive Director, NRA Past President

HB-169 Burden of Proof  by Rep. Dennis Baxley is scheduled to be heard in the House Criminal Justice Committee on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at 9:00AM.

HB-169 Burden of Proof   restores the Stand Your Ground law to the original intent of the Legislature by putting the burden of proof BACK ON THE STATE where it belongs.

If you own a gun and you ever have to use it to protect yourself or your family and -- you think, because of the Castle Doctrine/Stand Your Ground law, that the law is on your side.  Think again.  The Legislature gave you protection in 2005, but prosecutors and the courts have taken it away.

In 2005, the Legislature passed a self-defense law that gives immunity from arrest, detaining in custody, charging and prosecuting -- until and unless an investigation by the state reveals there is probable cause to believe the act was not lawful self-defense.

Prosecutors and the courts didn't like it so they created a special "Stand Your Ground" hearing that forces victims who fight back against criminals to prove they are innocent rather than making the state prove guilt.  This bill stops that and restores the protection the Legislature provided.

It is CRITICAL that you respond by emailing members of the House Criminal Justice Committee.  There are members of this committee who favor prosecutors and the courts INSTEAD OF YOU.

Make no mistake -- a committee member who votes against this bill will be voting against you and your constitutional right of self-defense.

To email the Senators, go HERE

Please EMAIL Committee members IMMEDIATELY and ask them to SUPPORT HB-169 Burden of Proof by Rep. Dennis Baxley
