TYPE OF GRANT 

* Medium - to large-scale project funding 
* Must partner with a Māori organisation 
* Must include co-funding 
* Must address one or more Vision Mātauranga themes.

ELIGIBILITY 

  • Include both a Research organisation/individual researcher and a Māori organisation, with one or the other taking the lead as Contracting organisation and the other as Partner organisation;
  • be for research which is to be undertaken in New Zealand;
  • addresses one or more Vision Mātauranga themes, and not solely address hauora/health;
  • Not be for activities for the same purpose already funded by any government agency;
  • Not include any full-time tertiary or school students;
  • be for activities that fit one of the two schemes, and meet the requirements of one of the two schemes as set out in the 2018 Te Pūnaha Hihiko: Vision Mātauranga Capability Fund Investment Plan.  NB: For Placement Scheme, a proposal must name the individual(s) who will be the placement person(s)

Grant Value

CONNECT SCHEME
Up to $100,000; for a term of up to 24 months. 

The contracting organisation must provide a minimum of one third of the requested MBIE contribution. 

PLACEMENT SCHEME
Up to $180,000; for a term of up to 24 months.

The partner organisation must provide a minimum of one third of the requested MBIE contribution.

Purpose

Te Pūnaha Hihiko: Vision Mātauranga Capability Fund (VMCF)
The Fund invests in the development of skilled people and organisations that plan to undertake, or are undertaking, research that supports the themes and outcomes of MBIE’s Vision Mātauranga policy.

The aim is to:

  • strengthen capability, capacity, skills and networks between Māori and the science and innovation system; and
  • increase understanding of how research can contribute to the aspirations of Māori organisations and deliver benefit for New Zealand.


Submission Process

VMCF applications must be submitted via the MBIE IMS Portal 

To access the Portal:
Returning applicants: log in using your existing log in details
New applicants: Contact the Funds Advisor Team

1. Submit your completed VMCF Proposal for Quality Assurance in the MBIE Portal by 5pm Tuesday 5 November 2019.

2. Create a record in the Research Funding Module (RFM) and submit for sign off by 5pm Tuesday 5 November 2019.

Please note: Applications are required to be received on or before the above-mentioned Funds Advisor Team deadline to allow time for our Quality Assurance process and any associated rework/revision of the application by the Principal Investigator. Only Faculty approved applications can be submitted by the Funds Advisor Team to MBIE.

3. Once your application is deemed fit for submission, the Funds Advisor Team will submit the application on your behalf in time to meet the Funder’s deadline.
