LMCC's Over 55's with artist and tutor Susan Ryman during a recent watercolour workshop. Workshops: Participants in LMCC's Over 55's program Watercolour Wonderland are thrilled with their artistic progress and rightly so. In just two lessons their tutor Susan Ryman transformed their 'blot-making' skills into confident painting skills. (See the work above). The program is a partnership between the gallery and LMCC's Community Planning Department. This was preceded by a morning session where Cox demonstrated his considerable oil painting skills and talked about his practice. The artist is a five-time Wynne prize finalist and has been a full-time artist for 40 years, mainly working in oils and pastels. His style of painting has been described as 'Romantic Realism'. Graham generously donated the work North Coast Memories (pictured above) to the Gallery Society to raffle to raise funds for the gallery's collection. This landscape painting is framed and valued at $2000. Raffle tickets are available from the gallery for $5 each. The winner will be drawn at the next Love of Art event on 20 August 2017. Exhibitions8 July – 20 August 2017 DIANE ARBUS: AMERICAN PORTRAITSLake Macquarie City Art Gallery is one of only four venues in Australia to show this substantial exhibition. The photographs of Diane Arbus (1923-71) are among the most widely recognised in the history of photography. Her images stand as powerful allegories of post-war America, and once seen are rarely forgotten. The work continues to polarise viewers who question whether she exploited or empowered her subjects, often drawn from society's margins. Diane Arbus: American Portraits is a National Gallery of Australia exhibition. Click here to read more about her life and work. The National Gallery of Australia acknowledges funding support from the Visions touring program, an Australian Government initiative aiming to improve access to the national collections fro all Australians.
