Christchurch City Council

Greetings from your Community Board

Message from the Chair

Kia ora koutou,
Happy New Year to all and welcome to the first edition of our community board newsletter for 2021. On behalf of our Board, I hope you all had a great break with friends and whānau.
There's lots coming up this year, with consultation now open for the Wheels to Wings Major Cycleway and the Central City Parking Policy, so check these out and have your say, and remember consultation on our city's Draft 2021-31 Long Term Plan opens March. Summer is still in full swing, with lots of events and activities around town. From community markets to music festivals, there's lots of opportunities to get out and connect with your community. And don't forget to sign up to the Aotearoa Bike Challenge - every ride counts.
Stay together, look after one another.

Chair of the Community Board

Board Chair, Emma Norrish

Highlights from our latest meeting

Our Community Board met on Friday 29 January. Some highlights of our meeting included hearing from local resident Francine Bills, who presented a petition regarding planned residential developments in Mersey and Westminister Streets. We'll refer her petition to Council's Regulatory and Performance Committee and request a briefing on the resource consent process.
Council staff briefed our team on a number of projects, including the Bus Priority Lane Trial on Cranford Street and Orion's 66v Cable Project in Belfast.
We approved a grant of $550 from our 2020-21 Discretionary Response Fund to St Albans Residents Association to help produce and publish the St Albans Library history booklet.
We also received our Community Board Area Report for December, which gives us an overview of all the great things going on in our community. You can check out the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes  Community Board Facebook page for more information, read the minutes to see more details on the above items and what else we discussed and find out the dates, times and details of upcoming Community Board and Council meetings here.

Wheels to Wings cycleway

Consultation has started on the Wheels to Wings cycleway. It will provide a connection for local cycling trips in the Harewood, Bishopdale and Papanui suburbs to destinations including schools, shops, businesses and recreational facilities. To learn more about the cycleway, read the article on Newsline.  Public feedback is currently being sought on the plans for the Wheels to Wings – Papanui ki Waiwhetū cycleway.
