Seasons Greetings!

Seasons Greetings!

It’s panto season again ("Oh no it isn’t" I hear you cry!) and this uniquely British tradition and display of eccentricity is the inspiration for this month’s newsletter. Here at CrackingIdeas.com we are all for embracing and celebrating the slightly weird and wonderful aspects of UK tradition. After all, Wallace and Gromit are somewhat of a British institution and at Christmas time - like the panto dames, one liners, and audience participation - it’s something of a traditional custom to watch the Oscar® winning duo on our TVs.

Whether you're at home with your family or out at the theatre, as the audience you are completely immersed in the story and the emphasis is on fun.  This year, whether you're watching 'A Matter of Loaf and Death' on the TV, or a production of Cinderella at your local theatre, don’t forget to boo-and-hiss the ‘baddies’ and warn the ‘goodies’ of impending danger (It's behind you!)

Copyright Your Cracking Ideas!

Copyright Your Cracking Ideas!

As well as engrossing their audiences, pantomimes and Nick Park's tremendous plots also have something else in common: from the first ideas sketched on to a piece of paper to the final polished scripts, all those cracking ideas are protected by copyright. Copyright is an automatic right which, unlike patents, designs or trade marks, you don’t have to register with us at the Intellectual Property Office. As a copyright owner you have the right to benefit from your work in the same way as those panto script writers or Wallace and Gromit’s creators do from their hard work and cracking creativity. Someone else who has benefitted from their cracking idea and learnt a bit more about copyright is last month’s Eureka Challenge winner ‘Gromitsbuddyinginventor’ with their brilliant pop-up story creation ‘Bob the Blob goes Skiing ’ Maybe this is the start of a plot line for a brand new pantomime production for future Christmases- just don’t forget the pantomime horse, the good fairy entering stage right and an evil villain we can all boo and hiss at!

Take Part!

Take Part!

For those of you who fancy developing your creative skills there is still time to take part in this month’s Eureka Challenge inviting you to ‘Create a Cracking Christmas Decoration’ as well as the national competition at www.crackingideas/competition .  Don’t forget to keep your eyes open for the first challenge of 2010 which will be live in early January and will be asking for you to produce a promotional poster to advertise the January Sales.

Until then all that remains is to wish you a cracking Christmas and a creative and innovative 2010 and of 2009 ... very nearly ... it’s behind you!

Cracking regards
