Protect Me From What I Want

Jersey Stitch Cashmere

This week's newsletter marks our first #monobrand edition - where we depart from the traditional compilation format, and dedicate an entire post to a single supplier.

As the son of legendary LA retailer Tommy Perse (who founded Maxfield, discovered Rick Owens, built Chrome Hearts, and so on), some may argue James Perse had an all-too-convenient head start in life.

Trust fund / network effects aside though, JP has built a tidy business of his own (worth $200 million) - selling the California Dream to folks like me.

With more than 55 retail locations around the world, James Perse is hardly "underground". Though if you are in the market for knitwear, jersey, or anything in the realm of "relaxed, casual, laid back" - then forget the rest, empty the bank account, and reset the wardrobe.

Clear Jersey

I have already mentioned my love of Icebreaker in a previous edition, whose merino basics occupy a sizeable % of our Muji storage space at home.

However, I also happen to own 7 almost identical CJ Crew tees from James Perse. Magma, asphalt, carbon - 50 shades of garment dyed grey ☰

The dry hand 'clear jersey' and signature rounded hem isn't for everyone, but at least one the many JP t-shirt styles will work for you. That is a PMFWIW guarantee.

Y/OSEMITE Collection

Although I would typically look elsewhere for sportswear (Sitka, Arc'teryx, etc) - JP happens to have a pretty solid range of aftersport essentials.

This sherpa fleece-lined jacket is a standout piece, and has to be tried on in person to fully appreciate how cosy your life could be! 🐑

Side note - Jason Statham is a recurring theme of course, so I would be remiss if I failed to mention JP and JS share the same architecture studio:

Standard Architecture

He also works with Marmol Radziner, another firm favourite.
