Update April 2015

Note the revised date for the Open House. We apologize for the error in the earlier email!

Study Underway!

Metro Transit, in partnership with Hennepin County and the City of Minneapolis, has initiated a transit study to identify possible transit improvements along West Broadway.

The West Broadway Transit Study will conduct a collaborative planning process to identify and evaluate potential transit improvements along Washington Avenue and West Broadway Avenue in north Minneapolis and Robbinsdale, including evaluation of potential connections to the planned METRO Blue Line Extension (Bottineau LRT). The study will also evaluate the corridor’s market potential for transit-oriented development (TOD). The intended outcome of the study is a recommended locally preferred alternative (LPA) for transit service improvements in the corridor.

The modes to be evaluated in the study include street car and bus network enhancements including bus rapid transit (BRT).

The West Broadway Transit Study will move through four stages:

  1. Identifying transportation problems in the corridor and identifying study goals
  2. Defining alternatives at a conceptual level
  3. Evaluating alternatives results and methodology
  4. Delivering a final transit study report along with a recommended locally preferred alternative (LPA) for transit service improvements in the corridor.

The study is expected to be completed by late 2015.

Project Tour with PAC

Policy Advisory Committee members tour the study area

Members of the West Broadway Transit Study Policy Advisory Committee (PAC) participated in a tour of the study area on Friday, April 10. The tour gave policy makers an opportunity to learn more about existing conditions, alignment and mode options, and future transit-oriented development possibilities.

Led by Metro Transit, the West Broadway Transit Study will explore streeetcar and arterial bus rapid transit (BRT) possibilities in the West Broadway Avenue corridor between Robbinsdale Transit Center and downtown Minneapolis. For a listing of future study committee meetings see the website.
