BOFA

In 2018, we’re back with a fresh, new, rejuvenated Tasmanian Breath of Fresh Air (BOFA) film festival. Thirty amazing films – 30 unforgettable stories from celebrated international  film-makers to make you laugh, cry and think. Great stories which we can enjoy together, about the world we live in and the people in it.

NEW DATE – MAY 17 -20
This year we switch from our traditional November Spring date to an Autumn festival, from Thursday 17 -Sunday 20, May.

NEW VENUE – VILLAGE CINEMA COMPLEX
BOFA moves to the Village Cinema complex, offering film lovers the highest quality projection in armchair comfort. The advanced projection technology at Village means that, for the first time, we have access to virtually every outstanding film from festivals around the world. We can now bring you the best of the best!

NEW PRECINCT – THE CBD
Moving to the heart of Launceston city means many more dining and wining choices before, after and between screenings. We have partnered with a selection of wonderful cafes and bars in the adjoining Kingsway who will offer special deals exclusively to BOFA patrons.

WHAT’S YOUR BOFA?

This year there are six categories of films to suit every film lover.

FEATURES: Our pick of the most outstanding feature films from the world’s biggest film festivals

DOCUMENTARY:  Docos that provoke, inspire and entertain

OUR STORIES: The best new films telling Australian stories

EAT/DRINK/LIVE: Food, wine and more – all the good things of life!

CALL OF THE WILD:  Extreme adventures from mountain, sea and air

DISRUPTIVE:  Films about our ever-changing world that will challenge you to think....and act!

The Square
AND HERE’S A SAMPLE - A MUST-SEE GEM

One of the International festival hits of the year...winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes .  From Director Ruben Ostlund (Force Majeur at BOFA 2014), it’s The Square, with Elizabeth Moss (Mad Men, The Handmaid’s Tale) and Claes Bang (The Bridge, Borgen). The Square is the most talked-about film of the season, a laugh-out-loud comedy for the modern age and a merciless satire of modern art, hypocrisy and fragile male ego.

Rolling Stone said “Altogether wonderful – will knock the wind out of you” and from Time Magazine “Outlandishly funny and biting”.
