January 12, 2018 –– 8 Years Since Haiti's Devastating Earthquake

Hope Force International [HFI] in-country Haiti Coordinators, Rene & Marianne Lako, take a moment to share their love for those they serve and what compels them to keep going.  We hope you will catch the passion for "our" village of Sous Savanne, Haiti, as you watch the short clip below  filmed by our partner, Village Church.

Bring a Team in 2018!

We would love for you to join HFI in Haiti this year! Given Haiti's existing poverty prior to the earthquake, HFI's long-term goal is to not only help rebuild this community where the majority of homes were lost, but promote sustainable development and improve the overall quality of life for people in Sous Savanne and the surrounding area. Beyond meeting their desperate, practical needs – we also seek to set an example of spiritual wholeness through modeling the life of Jesus on a daily basis.

Serving in Haiti is an opportunity for volunteers to grow in their own spiritual lives as well. By giving them the chance to work alongside Haitians in need, we want to show volunteers that they can be God's hands and feet in producing positive change.

Specific projects are dependent on availability of funding, team makeup and changing needs of the community. Some examples of possible service opportunities include:

  • Health teachings and consultations
  • Ministry in schools
  • Mobile medical team/clinics
  • Assisting with Houses of Hope project

For more information and available dates to join us in Haiti, email Rene.

Project Goal: 6 new homes this year!

The quality of life has been improved for many people in Sous Savanne through Hope Force International (HFI) recovery initiatives over these past eight years.  HFI has been continuously working to spread hope and rebuild lives in this area which was near the epicenter of the quake -- destroying 90% of homes.

Since April 2012, HFI has built 69 new houses in the Sous Savanne and Babay area. With the desire to promote sustainable reconstruction, HFI continues with Phase III of the Houses of Hope project to build more durable block homes for families living in Sous Savanne and Babay...in desperate need of adequate housing.

Our 2018 goal is to secure funding to build 6 more homes!

ECCA School (Ecole Chretienne du Centre de L’Agneu) was founded in 2007 by Pastor and Mrs. Laguerre.  The 2010 earthquake completely destroyed their building, but the Laguerres continued their quest to educate -- allowing many children to attend their programs for free.  Pastor Laguerre remembers, “In spite of our building being destroyed, parents sent their children to our school. We asked why they chose ECCA, and they said: ‘You inspire in us faith, hope and a future for our children.'”

In dire need of a better facility that is both earthquake- and hurricane-resistant, HFI embarked on a campaign in 2014 to raise funds to build a new school. Over the last three years, we have worked with multiple partners to construct a school comprised of nine classrooms and one office/library. The School Sessions is a principal partner of Hope Force International in this effort.

To date, seven of the classrooms have been built – with a shortfall of $40,000 to see the remaining classrooms, latrines and landscaping completed.

Would you consider helping us bring this project to completion this coming year?

A few months after the January 2010 Haiti earthquake, Hope Force International initiated a Child Sponsorship Program (CSP). Currently, 175 children are enrolled, and this program has become the core of all of HFI activities in Haiti.

For $29 per month, you can sponsor a child in Sous Savanne and make a world of difference! We have many on a waiting list, and are hoping to have 25 new sponsors in this coming year. Unlike U.S. public school systems, the Haitian school system requires tuition for children who desire an education. Many vulnerable families do not know where their next meal will be coming from, much less how they are going to pay for their child's education.

The Hope Force Child Sponsorship Program provides education and healthcare support for a child – with food and hygiene supplements distributed monthly by our Haiti-based team.
