The initiative was secured by Destination NSW and presented by TODAY as part of its ‘We Love Australia’ series. The episode showcased must-see attractions including Old Dubbo Gaol, the Japanese Gardens, Macquarie Riding Centre, Little Big Diary Co, Red Earth Estate and Taronga Western Plains Zoo. NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said securing media coverage on shows like TODAY helps to promote the State’s fantastic regions and unique tourism offerings to a mass audience. “This sort of exposure will be extremely valuable for local businesses and the region’s visitor economy. We are entering an exciting time for tourism in NSW and the NSW Government is working hard to ensure regions like Dubbo are reaping the rewards of our record investment in the industry,” Mr Marshall said. NEW-LOOK SYDNEY FISH MARKETS TO BOOST TOURISMThe NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian this week announced the selection of a multinational team of architects to deliver the $250-million-plus development of the Sydney Fish Markets. Danish architects 3XN will lead a design team that includes Sydney firms BVN and Aspect Studios. “3XN has done some remarkable work in waterfront locations around the world and we cannot wait to see what they have planned for this popular Sydney attraction,” Ms Berejiklian said. As part of the development, the new Fish Markets will back onto the existing Wentworth Park, and public access between the two sites will be restored. Image: An artist's impression of the new fish markets. NEW VIDEO TO PROMOTE GRIFFITH REGIONA new video has been launched to promote the Griffith region in the heart of the NSW Riverina. Produced by Griffith City Council, the eight-minute video captures the essence of the region, with stunning aerial scenery of the agricultural industry including cotton, vegetables, orchards, rice, as well as wineries and vineyards. The video will be screened at the local airport, Council foyer, and at the Griffith Visitor Information Centre. The video will also be used at trade shows on Destination Griffith stands. SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE ANNOUNCES YEAR-ROUND SAILS LIGHTING EXPERIENCEThe Sydney Opera House this week launched Badu Gili, a new experience that will light the building’s famous sails every evening in celebration of the rich history and vibrancy of Australia’s First Nations culture. Badu Gili – meaning ‘water light’ in the language of the site’s traditional owners, the Gadigal people – will explore ancient stories in a spectacular contemporary seven-minute animation, illuminating the eastern Bennelong sail year-round at sunset and 7pm. The initiative has been launched to coincide with the year of the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Referendum, on the eve of NAIDOC Week and the world premiere of Bangarra Dance Theatre’s new production, Bennelong. Image credit: Daniel Boud BARANGAROO WHARF NOW OPENNSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian this week opened the new ferry wharf at Barangaroo, marking an important step in making the harbourside precinct more accessible. The new wharf comprises two large pontoons, which can jointly accommodate eight ferries at a time. The NSW Premier and NSW Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance hopped aboard the new Fred Hollows ferry for its maiden voyage from Circular Quay, and also announced a boost in ferry services. “We know that ferry services are becoming more popular with both locals and tourists so the NSW Government is committed to delivering more options and improved services across the network,” Mr Constance said. The ‘Fred Hollows’ is one of six new ferries being put to work on Sydney Harbour, with enhancements including free Wi-Fi, charging stations for laptops and phones, bicycle facilities, luggage storage and improved access for people with disabilities. NEW MANAGER REGIONAL CONFERENCING Destination NSW has announced the appointment of Ms Helen Parker to the position of Manager, Regional Conferencing. Ms Parker has an extensive and impressive background in conference sales, event management and stakeholder engagement having worked for the Royal Agricultural Society, the Starlight Children’s Foundation and most recently at Fairfax Events. She will report to Mr Stephen Mahoney, the new General Manager Regional, and will commence in the role on 17 July. BLAK MARKETS AT BARANGAROO THIS SUNDAY The Blak Markets will return to Barangaroo Reserve this Sunday to host a special Aboriginal art market for NAIDOC Week. Aboriginal artists from 11 remote Australian arts centres will bring their artworks, sculptures, textiles and accessories to Sydney to exhibit and sell. For the past two years Ms Burke has been Destination NSW’s Marketing Executive for the UK and Germany, playing a key role in Destination NSW’s trade and industry partnership programs. Ms Burke will commence in the role on 4 July and work alongside key partners including tourism industry operators, airlines and travel trade specialists. |
