Mailout Soundtrack

Dave Graney plays Mojos Bar this Sunday. Win a double pass!

Jay Gum Watson from Pond, Tame Impala & his own life made an album & the first tune to be released is Delorean Highway. Check it while you're here

Amber Fresh has turned the humble gig review into something only she could get away with. Pop your headphones on if you intend on reading this at work ...

Ahead of Timothy Nelson's performance at the WAM Song of the year awards night Thursday, October 11, Lyndon Blue chats with the orange haired man about cheering up Robert Smith, travelling in general & winning song competitions.

Christopher Isaacs is stuck in the audience for a bad play & realises - as a pilot must when thinking of a parachute - leaving mid flight is quite a dramatic decision but without that option he may never return for fear of being stuck ...

Dave Graney & the Mistly (his latest actual rock band) play Mojos Bar this Sunday! The talented & lovely Lucy Peach supports. We've got a few double passes for the first few people to respond here!

Amber Fresh: Chronicles

Amber reviews events at The Bird, Subiaco markets & Mojos Bar all in song!

Amber reviews; Sean O'Neill & Solar Barge at the Bird; SUFFA at Subiaco Farmer's Markets 29 September 2012; AND Mercy Mercy & the Success of Satan, Pete Bibby, Pete from Sonpsilo Circus at Mojos Bar 30 September - ALL IN SONG!

We must all concede that there is only one Amber Fresh. This review in song ...  It's a great listen too!! Haha

Lyndon Blue: Interviews

TIMOTHY NELSON INTERVIEW @ THE OXFORD HOTEL, LEEDERVILLE

TIMOTHY NELSON INTERVIEW @ THE OXFORD HOTEL, LEEDERVILLE

It’s Monday evening and the moon – round and golden – is hovering near the horizon. I forgot how long Oxford Street is. Finally, past cinemas, continental grocers and date palms I spy the hotel that shares the street’s name.

Inside, there’s a ginger fuzz bobbing in the middle distance....

christopher isaacs: in the black box

the long walk

My palms are starting to sweat. I have looked up to the ceiling and tried counting the lights in the rig, maybe two. Evidently it’s a small show. The woman on stage is talking; I have no idea what about, something about an evil house? It’s not that what she is saying isn’t interesting, it’s more than that, what she is saying is in Danish. I’m wedged between some eight year olds who are insistent on commentary during the performance. I start counting my seats to the end of the row, weight either side. And then from the aisle down, it’s five steps up and six steps down...

Rainy Day Women launch

at mojos bar, FREMANTLE

RAINY DAY WOMEN launch Runaway. It has been a big 12 months for young Fremantle rockers Rainy Day Women. After releasing their debut EP Sleigh Bed in February, the title track and lead single was the 8th most added track to Australian radio in the week of its release. Among the stations that vouched their love for the song was triple j, who featured the song as part of their best new releases program and continued to hold the song on rotation for 7 months and counting.

The band has capitalized on the national exposure by playing a number of festivals, including Groovin' the Moo, St Kilda Festival, Fuse Festival and the WAMi Festival, along with supporting a number of high profile national acts. To add to the list of accolades, the band were nominated for ‘2012 Breakthrough act and Most promising new act at the WAMi awards. To the public eye, the band has made inroads that may usually take a band years to establish. However, despite the quick success of the collective, individually the band members have been sharpening their chops for many years. It is apparent on new single Runaway that singer/songwriter Dylan Ollivierre has honed in on his own song-writing style and the band are hotter than ever.

With support from: RUNNER, THE FLOWER DRUMS & MAT CAMMERANO

Presale tickets are avail from $10+bf or $15 at the door on the night from 8pm.

Making his debut for Fluid is multi talented and musically driven newcomer SCREECH. Despite playing a wide variety of sounds (which has seen him play all over as well as outside the metro area), his DNB set will be a reflection of his ethos of spinning strictly groove based music.

Alongside on the line up is our featured guest for the night, DJ MULLER who is no stranger to Fluid and Perth audiences. Recently arriving home from an overseas tour which included sets in Ibiza and beyond, Muller will be taking us deep into the world of liquid dnb.

Songs like "flash in the pantz", "blues negative", "cop this, sweetly" ,"midnight cats" and "playin’ chicken". Benoît Pioulard

at the bird, northbridge

Since a young age, Thomas Meluch has been fascinated by natural sounds and the textures of decay. He began playing piano before his feet could reach the pedals, and for more than a decade has sought to create a unique sonic environment by combining remnants of pop song structures with the lushness and unpredictability of field recordings. A veteran drummer of a half dozen bands and an avid collector of instruments and analog devices, Meluch relies on guitar and voice as the bases for his work as Benoît Pioulard. (from Kranky.net)

Your recipes wanted

for the beaufort st recipe book

The Beaufort Street Festival is on again this year and the countdown has begun!

We have many new exciting ideas and programs happening this year, including a far greater focus on food! Given that Beaufort St has such a diverse range of dining opportunities we felt it was only fitting to celebrate that.

As a part of the food program, we will be producing a community recipe book, "Recipes and Ramblings; A Food Journey from Beaufort St and Beyond" which will feature recipes from those on the street and its surrounds. Chefs, shop owners and residents will combine forces to fill the book with their favourite recipes.

the whodunit sleuth

at limelite theatre, wanneroo

Can you figure out “whodunit”? That’s the challenge Limelight Theatre is giving audiences this September and October with its murder-mystery production Sleuth.

Written by Anthony Shaffer, it won a 1971 Tony Award for best play and was adapted by playwright Harold Pinter for a 2007 film starring Michael Caine and Jude Law, directed by Kenneth Branagh. Caine was also in the original 1972 film with Sir Laurence Olivier.

The play follows mystery writer Andrew Wyke, who lures his wife’s lover Milo Tindall to his manor house where he harbours an obsession for inventions and deceptions of fiction and a fascination with games.

The plot thickens when Wyke puts a proposition to Milo he finds hard to resist and Inspector Doppler, Detective Sergeant Tarrant and PC Higgs become involved in the chain of events.

September 27, 28, 29, October 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13. Tickets are $19 adults, $16 concession and $10 children.

edge of centre

at heathcote museum & gallery, applecross

An exhibition by Anne Duff and Jane King.

To be opened by Shadow Minister for Culture and the Arts John Hyde MLA on Friday, 28 of September 2012 at 6.00 - 8.00pm. To attend the opening please RSVP by Wednesday, 26 September 2012 to claire.bushby@melville.wa.gov.au or phone 9364 5666.

Exhibition runs from Saturday, 29 September to Sunday, 4 November 2012.

Anne Duff and Jane King have explored the past life of a small corner shop on the city fringe. They peered through the keyhole to another time; when the world was bigger and slower, when old social networks were localised, like single, fragile spider webs stretching delicately out toward each other, connecting thinly, at random.

In this technological age it is no longer fantasy to be able to see through walls. New radar technology has been developed that will allow the viewer to peer through solid surfaces in real time with nothing more than a mobile phone.

the warrior and the princess

at the blue room theatre, northbridge

“Even a hunter cannot kill a bird which flies to him for refuge.”

Europe 1939, World War II begins. Jewish refugees flee when Poland falls to Germany. As the war progresses and the Allied forces strike back, the Soviet Union and Germany threaten to invade the refugees’ fragile safe haven in Lithuania. With borders closing, the refugees are desperate; their future looks dire whichever force may invade.

But in times of injustice, help sometimes comes from unexpected sources…

The Warrior and the Princess is a story of courage and the sacrifice of one for the lives of many. A unique reimagining of true events blends performance with shadow play, puppetry, and live piano accompaniment to recreate this little-known story of hope amidst the devastation of World War II.

“…each person must be judged on their character and nothing else.”
