We are delighted to announce that following much anticipation, our new Discovery 48 is starting to take shape in our manufacturing facility here at Marchwood, near Southampton.

The new Discovery 48 continues in the proud tradition of Discovery Yachts offering the same high quality build and exceptional pedigree with an emphasis on offshore performance.

The waterline has been maximised to deliver impressive passage times while enhancing the interior space for luxurious on-board living. A raised saloon and navigation station continue the Discovery trademark of ensuring excellent visibility from within while offering an open, spacious and sociable saloon area.

The interior design offers a 2 or 3 cabin layout, including a sumptuous owner's cabin plus two heads. On deck the Discovery 48 features a tall Solent Rig with in-mast furling, self-tacking jib and overlapping masthead genoa for simple sail handling. An aft cockpit design with a single (Ocean version) or twin (Riviera version) wheels are available with a fold down bathing platform and teak deck offered as standard.

The underwater hull profile incorporates exceptional form stability with twin rudders and a high aspect ratio deep keel for excellent all-round sailing capability. The hull has already undergone extensive sea trials in the Solent proving her to be a first class performer with good upwind speed pointing to 30 degrees with a comfortable motion.

We're super excited to report that Canadian ocean cruising couple Paul and Sheryl Shard, who produce the Distant Shores TV channel, stepped aboard one of our Discovery 55s recently and recorded their impressions for a short Vlog. Paul and Sheryl have ordered the very first Discovery 48 and are going to post regular Vlogs about the build process and their cruising adventures. The highly experienced World Cruising Club have a plethora of events and rallies taking place this year.

Their ARC Baltic trip is now full but there are spaces available on the ARC Portugal rally which takes place in June and the ARC Channel Islands cruise which sets off in August. Entries have also just opened for the World ARC 2019 which will visit 18 countries and sail over 26,000 miles in the company of like-minded sailors.
