CPC Project Gateway Celebrates Over 100 Students at End-of-Year College Sendoff

On June 28th, CPC Project Gateway marked the end of the school year with a celebration for Schools of Greatness students from Fort Hamilton High School, Franklin D. Roosevelt High School, and Liberty Educational Campus. Over 100 students came together to reflect on a year of learning, leadership, and community as they prepare for college. Each incoming freshman also received a college care bag.

Jinhua Tan Receives 2026 Jim Purcell Excellence Award from COFCCA

Jinhua Tan, Case Aide of CPC's Asian Family Services program, received the 2026 Jim Purcell Excellence Award from the Council of Family and Child Caring Agencies (COFCCA). The award honors Tan's strong work ethic, dedication to family-centered philosophy, and commitment to CPC's core mission and values, particularly her consistent focus on clear, respectful communication with families from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.

CPC and Healthfirst Connect Chinatown Seniors with Medicare Guidance and Health Resources

On June 24th, CPC Open Door Older Adult Center hosted a Chinese-language healthy aging event to connect older adults and caregivers with Medicare coverage guidance, health education and community resources. The event combined culturally relevant health education with practical tools to help community members make informed decisions and support their long-term health.

CPC Nan Shan Older Adult Center Hosts Community Panel to Raise Awareness on Elder Abuse

On June 15th, CPC Nan Shan Older Adult Center hosted a community panel discussion in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Over 70 older adults and a multidisciplinary panel of experts participated to raise awareness and educate community members about available resources. Panelists addressed financial exploitation, social isolation, and barriers to seeking help, with particular attention to challenges facing Asian Americans.

CPC Urges City Council to Fund RISE Network at $3.5M as Legal Services Demand Outpaces Capacity

CPC joined advocates to call on the City Council to fully fund the Rapid Immigrant Support and Empowerment (RISE) Network at $3.5 million in the FY2027 budget. The push comes as ICE arrests of Asian immigrants in NYC have surged sevenfold. Carlyn Cowen, CPC's Chief Policy and Public Affairs Officer, and Jack Hsia, CPC's Senior Attorney, were interviewed by Documented NY and shared that families have been torn apart by ICE detention, and the waitlist for legal services continues to grow. Over the past year, CPC has conducted more than 2,000 Know Your Rights trainings, provided 300 legal consultations, and taken on 100 cases.

Carlyn Cowen Named a 2026 City & State Pride Trailblazer 

City & State has named Carlyn Cowen, CPC's Chief Policy and Public Affairs Officer, to its 2026 Pride Trailblazers list, which recognizes LGBTQ+ leaders across New York who are advancing equality, advocating for their communities, and amplifying LGBTQ+ voices throughout the state. At CPC, Cowen oversees public policy, advocacy, government affairs, and community engagement. They have helped build an advocacy program that engages more than 2,000 staff and community members each year and played a key role in securing state funding for Asian American and Pacific Islander organizations. Cowen also serves as co-chair of the board for Jews for Racial and Economic Justice.
