Mayor Adams Makes a Surprise Visit to CPC Chinatown Older Adult Center

On July 12th, Mayor Eric Adams visited CPC Chinatown Older Adult Center, reaffirming his strong support for the aging community. The mayor spoke with staff and community members, listened to their concerns and aspirations, and shared valuable resources. His visit further strengthened the bond between older adults and city leadership, reinforcing CPC's commitment to keeping them engaged and valued.

CPC's partnership with the NYC Department for the Aging positively benefits over 1,000 older adults daily across four centers in Chinatown, Sunset Park, and Flushing.

CPC and Community Partners Host Live Concert for Over 250 Older Adults  

On July 8th, CPC collaborated with Homecrest Community Services, South Brooklyn Community Coalition, and the United Chinese Association of Brooklyn to organize a live concert for over 250 older adults. Community members were deeply moved by Joyous Band's performance, which featured over 40 timeless classics. Senator Iwen Chu also joined the festivities and celebrated the love of music alongside the community.

On July 13th, CPC Brooklyn Older Adult Center hosted its first 'Talent is Timeless' competition. The event was part of the New York City Department for the Aging's new initiative to recognize and celebrate the diverse talent among the older adult community. Over 40 community members participated and showcased their incredible abilities across various disciplines, including singing, dancing, instrumental performances, martial arts, and more.

CPC Statement on the NYC FY 23-24 Adopted Budget

On June 30th, New York City passed a $107 billion budget for FY24. CPC acknowledges and commends the City Council for restoring major cuts to social services proposed in the Executive Budget. However, we are deeply disappointed that the critical investments needed to sustain the human services workforce were left out of the budget, and that while restorations were made, the budget failed to invest deeply in the social safety net, education, housing, and the resources necessary to support Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI), immigrant, and low-income communities.

CPC joined the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities on a new campaign to combat discrimination and stigma faced by individuals with developmental disabilities. Among the inspiring stars featured in the "Look Beyond My Developmental Disability" campaign is CPC's Respite Coordinator, Jessica Hsieh. Our Queens and Brooklyn Special Needs programs also played an important role in shaping the initiative through meaningful focus group discussions.
