Hi there,

For the second time in three weeks an Australian industry group – actually two in this case – has sounded alarm bells about Australia’s digital future and concerns the country could become a digital laggard it the government doesn’t heed calls to take action.

As other countries around the world step up their efforts and focus on making digital central to their economies, Australia (and New Zealand too, it must be said) are on shaky grounds. The Australian Academy of Science and Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering added their combined recommendations to a long list from the Australian Information Industry Association, all calling for stronger strategy, policy and leadership to propel Australia’s ICT sector forward.

It is, they say, time for us to act and support innovative technologies – or run the risk not only of being digital laggards, but of becoming merely consumers, rather than producers.

Enjoy the read,
