Drugs.ie has launched an interactive drug ‘self-assessment and brief intervention’ resource. The resource will enable individuals over the age of eighteen to complete an online test to identify harmful drug use. On completing the test, the user receives personalised video feedback based on their specific responses, with suggestions on what to do in order to change any risks relating to their drug use.

This interactive resource uses the 'Drug Use Disorders Identification Test' (DUDIT) screening tool.

What makes this resource unique is that it provides personalised feedback in video format - a first internationally for a test of this nature.

The winners of the 'Let's Talk about Drugs' National Youth Media Awards 2015 were announced on Friday 24th of April at an awards ceremony in the Department of Education Clock Tower Building on Marlborough Street.

The awards were created to encourage the journalists, reporters, film enthusiasts and animators of tomorrow to start writing and talking about drug and alcohol issues in Ireland today.

This feature presents a video recording of a recent presentation given by Dr Sally Marlow from the National Addiction Centre Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience King’s College London to the School of Sociology at Queens University, Belfast.

The presentation is entitled ‘Under the Radar: An overview of Excessive Drinking in Mothers.’

In this presentation Dr Marlow looks at how excessive drinking is identified in mothers and what the tangible and intangible barriers are in making that identification

The prevalence of excessive drinking in mothers is also explored as are the factors that coexist alongside excessive drinking. Outcomes for children as a result of excessive drinking are also considered.

Community Awareness of Drugs held a training day in All Hallows College, Dublin in March.

Part of the training day featured a two-part presentation given by Dr Des Corrigan. The presentations were entitled: (1) Drugs: What you need to know in 2015; and (2) Old drugs: same problems.

These presentations will be of interest to anyone working in drug services.
