Foundation Mourns the Loss of Vice President and Founding Member, Lewis P. Wheeler

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Lew Wheeler, our esteemed Vice President, Founding Member, and cherished friend.

Lew became an integral part of the Juno Beach Police Foundation in March 2018, assuming the role of its inaugural Director and swiftly earning the position of Vice President, a role he dedicatedly held until his passing.

Actively involved in various aspects of the Town of Juno Beach, Lew's contributions were celebrated with the Juno Beach Civic Association's prestigious "Lifetime Achievement Award" in 2021. He embodied leadership, served as a role model, offered mentorship, and formed enduring friendships with those fortunate enough to know him.

On November 20, 2023, surrounded by loved ones, Lew passed away at home with his devoted wife, Peggy, the Vice Mayor of Juno Beach, by his side. Lew is survived by Peggy and his four sons: Bruce, Doug, Brett, and Wesley. Additionally, Lew leaves behind Peggy's children Justin, Cambria, and Camron as well as 11 grandchildren.

Lew's impact on those around him was profound, and his passing leaves a void that will be keenly felt. He was a beacon of goodness in humanity and a pillar of the Juno Beach community.

A "Celebration of Life" honoring Lew will take place at the Loggerhead Event Center, 14200 US Highway 1, Juno Beach, on Monday, December 11th, from 5:30 PM until 10:00 PM.

Please circle Wednesday, December 6th at 9:30 a.m. on your calendar and head over to the Town Center for our eagerly awaited monthly Coffee With A Cop event!

For more information on this event and future Police Department events please call the Juno Beach Police Department at (561) 626-2100.

AEDs IN PUBLIC PLACES

The new AEDs in Public Places that are being funded by the Juno Beach Police Foundation are in the process of being installed.

An AED will soon be installed in each of the following locations:

  • Kagan Park Recreational Area
  • Pelican Lake North Gazebo
  • Pelican Lake South Gazebo
  • Town Hall Park
Once installed, a new Foundation newsletter will advise more details.

To use an AED, CPR training is not needed.

If someone needs help, a bystander can call 911. The Police/Fire-Rescue dispatcher will advise the caller of the nearest AED and then provide the caller a special code to open the box. Voice guidance on the AED provides instructions on CPR and how to use the AED.

Every second of every minute matters in cases of cardiac arrest, and every person can be more informed and educated about how they could help in an emergency such as cardiac arrest - in the critical moments before emergency professionals arrive.

If your community or condominium association would like more information on CPR, AED, and First Aid classes taught by the Juno Beach Police Department, please call (561) 626-2100 to speak with the Department's CPR/AED Instructor.
