Despite the interruption of the Covid-19 lockdown, the Kōtui consortium continues to progress the preliminary designs of the arena.
The team is currently working on the structural and surrounding urban designs and cultural narrative, and looking at ways to optimise the number of food and beverage outlets within the arena footprint.

"When finished, the Canterbury Multi-Use Arena will be able to host both large and small events, and there'll be no other venue in the southern hemisphere that will compare.

It's been 10 years since the city has experienced a big weekend due to a big test or concert, and a covered arena so close to the heart of the city will have incredible economic benefits both for Christchurch and Canterbury."

- Richard Peebles, CMUA board director and property investor

Kōtui team member profile

Name: Janelle Campbell
Position:
Design Manager for BESIX Watpac

Day to day I: review the designs to ensure we deliver a well-planned, functional arena that meets programme, budgetary and local legislative requirements. I work with Kōtui’s design consultants and key stakeholders, and gather information to resolve the arena’s design requirements.

Best part of my job: being part of the team delivering a lasting legacy for the community. Seeing a project unfold on site is very rewarding and every day is different as we address and solve any challenges.

It specialises in brain injury, surgery, endoscopy and rehabilitation, and holds some of Australia’s leading health and medical research and innovation. I spent four years on the project that BESIX Watpac delivered on time and on budget.
