Sunday and public holiday works on Sumner Road

Critical rock-scaling works to reduce geotechnical risk to Sumner Road will extend to Sundays and public holidays.

The works are being done by McConnell Dowell for NZ Transport Agency and Christchurch City Council, as part of the Sumner Road geotechnical risk mitigation programme. Once the risks have been mitigated, the road will be repaired and reinstated.

The rock scaling, on the crater rim bluffs above Buckleys Bay Reserve, is a continuation of works along Sumner Road that have been ongoing since November. The contractors continue their commitment to minimising impacts for local residents, such as noise and dust, as they have done throughout the works, so locals are not expected to experience any disruption from the extension to working hours.

We will continue to keep residents in the Lyttelton Harbour Basin informed ahead of any high velocity blasting activity around Sumner Road.
