Traffic congestion costs billions of dollars each year and, as new Grattan Institute research reveals, the problem in Sydney and Melbourne – Australia’s two largest cities – is only getting worse. Rethinking how we pay for roads and public transport, and not simply building more roads, might provide a way to ease drivers’ current road rage.
