How are you using Postmark on Spectrum today?
We use Postmark for all of our outbound transactional emails at Spectrum. From the new user signup email, to the hundreds of thousands of notifications that are triggered through a person's activity on the site, everything is flowing out through Postmark.
We have taken advantage of the tagging system so that we can get a granular look into how each of our email types performs with opens and clicks. These insights help us identify where we're being a bit too noisy, or where we're doing a good job of matching notification relevance to each person.
If you could add one feature to Postmark, what would it be?
We really need a better build pipeline for building our email templates. Right now each template is a discrete file, and we don't have the time to properly build out a workflow to compile email templates from re-usable components which would make it so much easier to keep our styling and structure aligned over time.
As a result, each of our emails starts to stray over time as small additions are made, and it's not easy to keep them in sync - mostly stylistically. I wish we had a way to define "core styles" and "custom for this template styles" as well as build out re-usable components for our own use case which could be built up into a final template to be sent to Postmark.
Ed. note: we have plans to improve templates quite a bit over the coming months. If you have further ideas about this, send our Product Manager an email!
If you could give fellow developers one piece of advice about how to implement and manage their transactional email, what would it be?
Do your best to build a style system for your emails so that each one doesn't have to be designed and built from scratch every time. From a branding perspective, it's critical for people to immediately know that an email is from you, so make sure that core colors, typography, layout, iconography etc. feels cohesive across all of your messaging.
Additionally, with Postmark, don't forget to tag your emails! Tagging allows you to drill into your analytics at a per-email level, making it easy to identify problems in your outbound pipeline.
