Important information for central city cyclists

New separated cycle lanes outside the Bus Interchange mean there are some changes to the way we get around.  Buses will turn across the cycle lane to enter the interchange.

The changes are being introduced to make sure the road is safe for all users.

Outside the new Bus Interchange, cyclists will see on-road lights flash orange just before a red stop signal is displayed.  This signal is for people riding bikes only.

The signals are coordinated so that when buses have a green light, people riding bikes will have to stop for the red light.  The flashing orange lights will warn when the light is about to change.

Buses will be in training around the interchange from Thursday 30 April 2015, so please be aware of bus movements from then on.

'Ride to Read' on Tuesday 14 April

C'mon Christchurch - let's ride to read!  Tuesday 14 April 2015 is the inaugural 'Cycle to Your Library Day'.

Cycling is a healthy, fast and cost-effective way of getting to wherever you need to go - including your fantastic local library.  Cycle to any Christchurch City Library (excluding Banks Peninsula) on Tuesday April 14 and receive a FREE reflective backsack (while stocks last).

Feel free to linger as many libraries will also have displays on cycling information, literature, events and resources.   Click here for more information or here for a list of all libraries.

Temporary cycleway closure

The cycleway which runs from the intersection of Treffers and Wigram Roads to opposite Lunns Road will be temporarily closed to accommodate work on the new Wigram Road to Magdala Place Link (including a new bridge over Curletts Road).

A detour has been established along Treffers, Parkhouse and Curletts Roads. The closure will be from 15 April 2015 with anticipated re-opening in May 2016. For further information see www.ccc.govt.nz/wigrammagdala.
