Dear Alumni,

Welcome to the ICE newsletter which keeps you up-to-date with news, events and opportunities, specifically tailored for alumni of the Institute of Childhood and Education (and all educational courses prior to its formation).

NQT and Early Year Career Teacher Conference

Have you booked your place yet for the 2019 NQT and Early Career Teacher Conference 'Career Illuminations'? If not, there are some places still available but time is running out.

Delegates have a chance to explore career progression routes, and consider niche areas to develop specialist knowledge to enrich their school. Workshops are designed to help early career teachers build new aspects of expertise, with a strong focus on how to build their next career steps whilst avoiding burnout.

In addition, a 'work and wellbeing' strand of sessions will give delegates new ideas about how to stay resilient and invested in the classroom. Please book asap to avoid disappointment.

Literature in Focus with Dorothy Koomson

Are you interested in bringing your Year 12 students to attend a very special free event with award-winning author Dorothy Koomson?

During the event Dorothy will discuss her own journey as a writer, how to put together a story, and share top tips for aspiring writers. It is aimed at Year 12 students with an interest in writing and reading.

If you would like any further information or have any questions, please contact the Schools and Colleges Liaison Team by email or via phone on 0113 283 7186.

Avoiding burnout and combatting stress

Did you know that 40% of NQT's leave the profession within five years, with many citing burnout as one of the main reasons for this?

Find out more from two leading practitioners who talk about their experiences as teachers, coping with stress and how they maintain a positive work-life balance.

There are two informative articles on our blog pages. Part one can be viewed here and part two here.
