Researchers used a microfluidic device--a "microaneurysm-on-a-chip"--to train and evaluate an AI system that that can infer pressures and stresses from images of blood flow. That information could one day help doctors to predict aneurysm ruptures.

An artificial intelligence (AI) technique developed by Brown mathematicians may soon help doctors assess the severity of vascular problems like blood clots and aneurysms. Read more.

Users experiencing issues with eRA Commons or Login.gov accounts should seek direct assistance from eRA Commons Helpdesk at 866-504-9552 or submit a ticket with them online, as RAIS team does not support external, non-Brown systems.

Coeus & InfoEd Inquiries: Technical Help and Report Requests Require a Ticket

OSP Welcomes new Staff to Post-Award and Pre-Award Teams
Ryan Chin is the newest member of the Post Award Team. Ryan comes to Brown with over 15 years of experience in higher education, most recently serving as the Assistant Bursar at Rhode Island College. Scott Nickerson has joined the Pre-Award Team from Brown’s MCB Department and earlier service at UMass Medical School.

New NIH Biosketch format required for applications on or after May 25
NIH has updated its application forms and instructions to support the need for applicants and recipients to provide full transparency and disclosure of all research activities, foreign and domestic. Read more.

Brown is partnering with BridgeBio to advance new treatments for neurological diseases with genetic origins. BridgeBio will work with scientists to evaluate discoveries and develop them into potential treatments for patients. Read more.

New Patents to Brown
A new patent was issued this month for work in the lab of Dr. George Karniadakis (US 10,963,540). Professor of Applied Mathematics and Engineering, Karniadakis uses machine learning to model physical and biological systems. Read more.

You’ve seen the guide notice and read the reissued parent conference grant funding opportunity announcement, noting Diversity Plans are now required and will be considered during the review of your application.

Change to NINDS Administrative Reduction Policy for Modular R01 Awards 
As of the September 2020 NANDS Council round, NINDS will no longer apply administrative reductions to modular investigator-initiated R01 grants. However, non-modular R01 awards will continue to receive a 17.5% administrative reduction applied to IRG and NANDS Council budget recommendations (see NINDS Funding Strategy). 

SUP - Research Supplements to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research
