Northern Rivers, North West and New England

7 August 2015

Hi ,

Welcome to our August issue of your territory newsletter! We will keep you up to date on all jnjg’s latest news, events and golfing tips.  The State Championships have been run and won with the Junior Boys and Junior Girls winners both coming from out-of-town.

Our Northern Rivers and Northern Inland Order of Merit competitions continue to thrive, with participation numbers up on last year.  I look forward to seeing you "around the traps" for the rest of the year.

Great Hospitality at the Bundarra Junior Open Day

On a crisp but fine winters day, the Bundarra Golf Club hosted their inaugural Junior Open Day with players coming from Armidale, Coonabarabran, Guyra, Inverell, Longyard, Moree, Tamworth, Tenterfield, Walcha as well as the host club.  To the best of our knowledge, this is the ONLY event played on sand greens in the JNJG calendar and the kids loved it!!  To find out how the day turned out, click here.

A Young Star Emerges at Gunnedah

Whilst the Northern Inland Order of Merit Series (NIOOM) is conducted across 12 different New England, North West and Central North District golf courses, not all players from clubs across the vast geography are able to compete in every event.  However, in the 7 events conducted in 2015 season to date, one young player (and her parents) have ventured to ALL of the NIOOM events.  Annabelle Abrahamson, a 10-year-old young girl from Moree, is leading the way in the Cadet Girls division and on Sunday at Gunnedah shot a fantastic score of 38 shots on the modified 9-hole layout.  Click here for more details.

Maclean Junior Classic

The day was fine but cold and the number of participants from courses in the surrounding region was good.  Players from the host club Maclean, Ballina, Murwillumbah, Coolangatta -Tweed Heads, Byron Bay, Casino, Ocean Shores, Kyogle, Grafton as well as neighbouring clubs at Iluka and Yamba made for an exciting days golf.  For more details, click here.

Walcha’s Andrew Brennan in Fine Form at Longyard

We had a good field of 39 starters for the annual Junior Open Day at Longyard Golf Course in Tamworth. The host club was represented along with players from Armidale, Coonabarabran, Inverell, Moree, Narrabri, Tamworth, Uralla, Walcha and Warialda Golf Clubs. Playing to your handicap on this course is always a tough ask.  For more information, click here.

JNJG Junior AM Raises $8,500

Thanks to the help of generous sponsors and golf clubs JNJG and Golf NSW managed to raise $8,500 to develop junior golf in the host region of the Subaru State Championships.  This is the second year JNJG has hosted this event and it is a promising sign for the future with participants, sponsors and local club members enjoying a great day out. Trew Beats All the Boys at Kyogle!

On a wet and uncomfortable day in the Kyogle Shire, Maddie Trew (Murwillumbah) showed all the boys how to play great golf in difficult conditions.  Maddie’s score of 75 was 6 shots better than any of the boys could record, so she was the worthy winner of the Kyogle “Green Jacket." Spring and Davidson Claim Honours at State Championships

The Subaru State Championships is one of the biggest events on the JNJG Tournament Calendar but unfortunately this year the silverware travelled home with Kiwi Henry Spring and Queenslander Karis Davidson.  Check out all the action from this year’s championship hosted by the Illawarra Region by clicking here.

Tight Competition for the Tyro Girls at Grafton Junior Classic

Four players, some only slightly taller than the club they were holding, teed off in the 5 hole Tyro competition.  A good score of 32 shots from Sophie Gaskell (Ballina) was good enough to hold off Zoe Gaskell (Ballina), Annalese McKee (Grafton) and Oslo Harridine (Yamba).  We look forward to seeing these young players grace our NRDGA Order of Merit events in the years to come.  For more details from the day including all of the winners, click here.

2015 Junior Masters Series Continues to Thrive

As we reach the second half of the year the JNJG Junior Masters Series continues to attract a large number of junior golfers.  In May and June we hosted two more events at Kew Country Club and Campbelltown Golf Club.  Read all about these events by clicking the links below:
