Pick up a double pass for Fisherman Style at Mojos Bar

Tame Impala's new tune Elephant is out. 200K+ views of an audio youtube in just over a week. Check it here.

Lyndon Blue Dada Records had an amazing gig on the weekend past. Lyndon caught it & his interpretation of Terrible Truths, Per Purpose & Gunns presented by Good Company & New Weird Australia is tremendousedly detailed, teased out & inspired; as per usual.

Tahlia Palmer has reviewed the Olympics opening ceremony. She thought the ceremony was incredibly odd. It was.

Amber Fresh reviewed the Good Buddies Food Drive gig. Good Buddies Foundation is a group of young dudes that arrange gigs as fundraisers for unique causes. This time they've put on a gig where people paid in tinned food which went to the homeless. Article here

Felicity Groom gives an overview on who we all were - children! We were insane & we were insightful. We probably still are. Felicity is our on the ground chaos correspondent! Article here!

Christopher Isaacs is sick of phone ringing in the theatre. He has eloquently ranted about this over three paragraphs. Haha!

Sherrif Lindo & Drummie run the monthly Fisherman Style reggae night at Mojos Bar - they have for over 6 years. Sherrif made electronic music many moons ago witth Itch-E & Scratch-E who had the BIG tune Sweeteness & Light so the fella is a legend & this Friday it's his birthday! First thru here gets a double pass to Fisherman Style #74.

lyndon blue: live reviews

GOOD COMPANY & NEW WEIRD AUSTRALIA PRESENT

My shoesteps resounding round the white-walled, cavernous space are the only sounds I’ve heard for a few minutes. Not long til close, with a final spat of visitors unlikely to arrive, art galleries are a funny kind of doldrums at this time of night. Standing guard over artwork no-one’s observing is hardly one of an invigilator’s more peculiar tasks, however. Taken out of their creative context, plenty of one’s responsibilities are truly bizarre: checking on a bodybuilder to see if he’s finished bronzing himself, imploring people not to eat an oversized stalactite of gradually cascading toffee and – lately – explaining to frowning, somewhat bemused patrons that a disused cleaning tool can be art, and that presenting a found object in a gallery is not necessarily symptomatic...

The olympic opening ceremony

I accidentally saw a repeat of the Olympic opening ceremony this weekend. It was one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen. I was nearly speechless. Pretty much completely speechless in between bursts of manic laughter and mumbles of “oh maaaaaannnn”.

I was sitting in the courtyard bit of PICA, chain smoking and drinking tea waiting for my buddy to show up. It was a nice time that day: holiday life, lazing around bars and cafes, being a proper lady of leisure, not giving a single fuck about anything except how I was going to get back to my mother’s place for free food and free accommodation in the evening. When I sat down, I gazed up at the big ol’ screen in the cultural centre, hoping for some more lovely mini documentaries from the Etsy website about artisans in...

Ring of Death

So here’s a story about a pet peeve I have in the theatre.  Well, not so much a story as an occurrence.  I was recently in a performance, around 500 other people were with me and we were watching a show, when from the couple of rows before me a slight vibrating murmur emanated from someone’s bag.  It was a phone going off.   Yes a phone.  Not ringing, just vibrating.  Now, I don’t have an iphone myself, but I know people who do, and I know when they switch it to silent it may not ring aloud when they receive a call, but the clever people at apple seemed...

lunar soil

at paper mountain, northbridge

Lunar Soil is an exploration of perception and the way it is coloured, shaped and finely textured through the lens of personal mythology. Worldviews everywhere intersect, interbreed and are ultimately cultivated and renewed through human imagination, allowing us to perceive meaning on both the individual and cosmic scale. Lunar Soil is a small collection of inky symbols reflecting some of the stories, environments, creatures and ideas experienced in just one among an infinite array of evolving mythologies.

An exhibition by Chloe Spiers-Atherden at Paper Mountain. Opening party August 1st from 6pm.

Runs 1st-6th August.

the book of death (a story of life)

at the blue room theatre, perth

Faced with the certainty of death, what hope can be found? What counts for a ‘life worth living’ when we know the end is inevitable?

The Book of Death (A Story of Life) is a performative song cycle about finding what is affirming about existence when faced with life’s only absolute.

This new work by Renegade Productions – the acclaimed creators of Laryngectomy and Luminaire – weaves together performance, original live music, and the simple tale of a couple caught in a loveless relationship.

This dreamlike show is designed to engage and enthral; to stimulate the senses while questioning life, death, and everything in between.

At the very end… is there any hope?

Showing August 7 - 25 2012
Tues - Sat 8.30pm
Full $25 / Conc. $20
Blue Room Theatre Members: $20 / $15
Groups 6+ $20

free art

in perth

Between the sixth and the thirteenth of August we invite you to create some original artwork. In the following week we would like you to submit it to us, either via post/scan or in person if we live relatively close to one another. From here we will be combining pages and art work and creating a small book, available for a small donation at each and every meet up.
