National Reconciliation Week 2018

Don't Keep History a Mystery

Visit MoAD during Reconciliation Week and join us for a new tour which considers the experiences of Indigenous Australians within our democracy.

Stories will be shared of how Indigenous Australians and their supporters have explored different pathways to bring about changes, many of which led them here - the seat of Federal Parliament between 1927 and 1988.

Tours will run between 27 May and 2 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in Australia's reconciliation journey - the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision in 1992.

Tours are free after general museum admission however bookings are essential as spaces are limited.

    Museums and Contested Histories

Like all museums, sometimes at MoAD we need to talk about difficult subjects, and we use the power of the items in our collection to help us do that. Kevin Gilbert's piece Massacre Mountain inspired a blog from MoAD’s Senior Historian Libby Stewart that explores how museums can play a role in providing a safe spaces for difficult conversations.
