Tickets on Sale for the Senior School Production of “Puffs”

For seven years a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs...who just happened to be there too. A tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world but works hard to remain loyal and true despite all odds. This clever, hilarious and heartfelt play gives a new look at a familiar ‘Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic’ with a winking fondness for all things Harry!

The livestream shows on March 4 and 5 at 7:00 pm. Get your ticket. (see instructions)

Family Night Dance Party – Let’s Boogie!

In place of our usual spring Mother-Daughter Dance, we will offer a virtual experience of dancing, choreography, and entertainment for the whole family. The CHS Parents’ Auxiliary invites Grade 1 to 12 families to join a fun-filled, virtual night of dance and pop hits of the 90s at the family night dance party on Tuesday, March 9 at 6:30 pm. Slip on your dancing shoes or fuzzy slippers and try out some fun Tik-Tok choreography and dance challenges. Please register by March 4. Don’t forget to share your evening and follow other CHS families with #CHSFamilyLove.

Crofton House School’s 123rd Birthday Celebration - No Classes

Our first virtual birthday celebration will take place on Friday, March 5 at 10:30 am. Our Junior and Senior School students have worked hard to prepare musical pieces that will be broadcast with an adjusted program that includes messages from this year’s Alumnae Achievement Awards recipients. Please note, there will be no classes on March 5. A link to the livestream will be shared with families next week by email and we hope you will be able to watch the celebration at home. A recording will also be available online following the broadcast.

Parent Night - Recordings Available

We are committed to partnering with our parent community to help support every students’ wellbeing. The presentations for two recent parent evenings have been posted to the school website.

  • Dr. Jeff Hancock, a founding director of the Stanford Social Media Lab and Professor in the Department of Communication at Stanford University, spoke to Senior School families and explored the impact of social media and AI technology on students’ well-being. View video.
  • Lisa Dion, international teacher, clinical supervisor, author and coach, spoke with Junior School families about how to help their children increase their self-regulation and navigate the waters of the conflict that they will inevitably face as they grow up. A recording of the presentation is available on the website until Friday, April 16. View video.

Crofton House students stood up for kindness and anti-bullying on Pink Shirt Day. “We wear pink shirts today so there is no bullying and more kindness spread around CHS and Vancouver,” said Reina, Grade 3. In the Senior School, students talked about power dynamics, and how to lift each other up. Learn more.

Senior Kindergarten students got a taste of coding as they programmed their “Blue Bots” to travel from hive to flower. Working together, they also got a big helping of how to work in a group, take turns, and celebrate success!

Grade 3 students baffled their teachers in Science Club after learning all about camouflage. There were so many well-hidden butterflies around the classroom, and we hear that some still haven’t been found!

With the first glimpses of spring peeking through, students in the Grade 5 Choir took the opportunity to head outside and enjoy the bright weather. Can you guess what they will be singing for the school birthday next week?

Grade 6 students have reached their goal of folding 1000 origami cranes for peace, and are now working on 1000 ravens for reconciliation. They were inspired by the story of Sadako, a young girl from Hiroshima, Japan. Learn more about their project.

Collaboration, risk management and conflict resolution were just some of the themes Grade 9 students tackled during their Ivy 9 day this week. Getting from one side of the gymnasium to the other proves more difficult than expected when everyone needs to work in harmony.

Three texts, all very different but with a particular thread that binds them. These Grade 10 English students held some interesting pinwheel discussions (a method to discuss a topic from different perspectives) in their classroom as they tried to find the common ground.

Valentines day may be behind us, but Grade 12 students were still in a very loving and giving mood. They repurposed old flower displays into beautiful new bouquets that were then donated to the residents at Crofton Manor Retirement Residence, a wonderful display of creativity and citizenship.

Athlete Profile: Kate, Grade 7

While competition is on pause, we want to make sure that the experiences of our athletes are captured and shared. This week, we share thoughts from Kate, Grade 7 to get her take on a school year without competition.

We asked what she sees as the benefits of sport:

“I really love just getting to exercise. I like getting to be part of the team.”

And we wanted to know what was most challenging:

“You know, I really like to do it. I just want to try to beat my previous time, show up, and do well.”

We loved these insights for sport, and beyond and we hope this brings you some Crofton Falcon Pride! Look for more next E-Calls. #BringItHome
