I-35W construction continues

Construction crews working on I-35W at Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis

Construction work continues on I-35W as part of the 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown project. The project will begin heavy construction on I-35W in spring 2018. All construction work is expected to be complete by fall 2021.

Learn more about 2018 construction impacts and transportation options, and talk to project representatives at the Downtown Employer Event in Pohlad Hall of the Minneapolis Central Library on Feb. 21 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. MnDOT will provide a presentation at 8 a.m. The event is free and open to the public. 

There are a number of ways to get additional information, ask questions or provide feedback on construction:

Enhanced I-35W service for Super Bowl

Metro Transit and MVTA are adding transit service to provide more travel options in the week leading up to the Super Bowl.

  • Added service on Metro Transit’s Route 535 will operate between the Knox Avenue Park & Ride and downtown Minneapolis, including extra trips and weekend service.
  • Added service on MVTA’s routes 460, 477, and 490 will include extra weekday trips, and two new shuttle services from Burnsville and Eagan that will connect to downtown via METRO Blue Line.

Year in review

2017 was another big year for the Orange Line project, including the following accomplishments:

  • Completed design for all Orange Line stations
  • Secured all remaining local project funding
  • Received a favorable project rating from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) 
  • Received approval from the FTA to begin construction on Lake Street Station and 12th Street Ramp
  • Began construction on 35W, led by MnDOT
